Solar Design Engineer for AI Evaluation

Solar Design Engineers apply hands-on solar design, estimation, and construction planning expertise to evaluate AI-generated project outputs and produce expert training data that improves AI understanding of project development workflows and cost estimation.

• Review AI-generated solar project estimates, construction plans, and design outputs for technical accuracy and real-world feasibility.
• Provide detailed, actionable feedback that clarifies errors, assumptions, and missing information so AI models learn correct workflows and cost practices.
• Create and annotate expert-level training examples based on your practical experience and the tools you use daily.
• Document the rationale behind corrections and recommendations to support consistent model improvement.
• Work independently and asynchronously with AI research teams, meeting project-specific guidance and quality standards.

• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in energy project estimation, pre-construction, or solar design.
• Relevant job titles include Estimator, Project Engineer, Pre-construction Manager, Solar Design Engineer, or equivalent roles in the energy industry.
• Hands-on experience with one or more of the following tools: Bluebeam Revu, RSMeans, Aurora Solar.
• Strong written communication skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to work independently on asynchronous tasks.
• No prior AI experience required, only proven domain expertise and practical tool fluency.

• Engagement type: hourly contract, independent contractor, part-time.
• Location: fully remote, work asynchronously.
• Schedule: flexible, no minimum hour requirement.
• Typical participation: most contributors work approximately 5-20 hours per week when assigned to an active project.
• Project placement is dependent on current needs, with candidates considered for additional projects as they become available.

• Pay: Up to $85/hr (depending on the project).
