Senior Software Developer

The Senior Software Developer will design, develop, test, and maintain complex software applications primarily using Java and related technologies. This role involves translating technical specifications into working solutions, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams within a public sector environment. The position requires strong expertise in full software development lifecycle, cloud services, business automation, and accessibility compliance, with a focus on supporting government initiatives. Responsibilities:

• Translate technical system specifications into tested, functional applications.
• Develop detailed programming specifications and write code using Java, Spring Boot, Angular, and related technologies.
• Compile, maintain, and conduct unit testing of data-driven programs.
• Resolve and troubleshoot technical problems during software use and implementation.
• Prepare deployment packages and coordinate releases across multiple environments.
• Collaborate with business analysts, QA, system architects, and other stakeholders in Agile Scrum and RAD environments.
• Maintain and update design, architecture, and technical documentation.
• Ensure software complies with accessibility standards and government IT policies.
• Lead code reviews, provide effort estimates, and report progress in Kanban settings.

• Extensive experience with full SDLC including design, coding, testing, debugging, deployment, and maintenance.
• Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, JPA, EJB, Angular, NodeJS, Jasper Reports, and PDF generation.
• Strong experience with RESTful and SOAP web services, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Cloud services and DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and containerization (Docker).
• Expertise in IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM) and IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW).
• Experience with JEE application servers such as IBM WebSphere and Liberty 8.x.
• Strong PL/SQL skills including complex queries, stored procedures, and data migration scripting.
• Experience working with OpenText Content Management System APIs.
• Proven ability to develop AODA-compliant user interfaces and accessible documents.
• Familiarity with Ontario Government IT standards (GO-ITS 54).
• Experience in public sector or government permitting platforms.
• Proficient in Agile Scrum and RAD methodologies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Experience with middleware, gateways, and various communication protocols.
• Familiarity with IBM/Rational products and testing tools such as Selenium and IBM AppScan.
• Experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, AJAX, and JDBC/SQL for UI development.
• Knowledge of additional development tools like Rational Software Architect and Oracle Designer.
• Experience producing technical documentation, deployment guides, and user/system manuals.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure automation and container orchestration beyond Docker.

• Must work onsite 5 days per week at the specified Toronto office unless otherwise approved.
• Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

• Strict adherence to government IT standards and accessibility compliance.

• Full-time, Monday to Friday, standard business hours with potential for Agile sprint schedules.
• Onsite presence required 5 days per week at the Toronto office.
