As a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, the incumbent will work under closer supervision performing assignments and completing training. At the full-performance level, you will be expected to. In this role you will: Inspect or survey workplaces, processes or products for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards. Assist in the evaluation of work operations to quantify hazardous exposures using methods such as collecting noise data, air samples and ventilation measurements. Assist in the design or modification of workplaces, processes or products to control or eliminate hazards. Assist in the development of safety and occupational health standards to reduce the frequency, severity and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Assist in the training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a US Citizen Who May Apply To be eligible for consideration you must meet the definition of as defined below: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); OR (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-stain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. (Degree must be completed by June 2026.) In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
