Sales Design Consultant – Lakeside Decking

Lakeside Decking is a premium outdoor living company serving the Minneapolis West Metro and Lake Minnetonka areas. We don't build basic decks — we design and build luxury outdoor spaces: custom composite decks, smart louvered pergolas, screened porches, outdoor kitchens, under-deck drainage systems, and full outdoor living environments for discerning homeowners.

We are a tight-knit, process-driven team that takes great pride in our work, our client experience, and our internal operations. Sales are growing. Our systems are sharp. And we're ready to bring on the right people to help us keep building.

The Opportunity

We're growing our sales team and looking for talented, proven closers to join us as Design Consultants.

This is a one-call close model. You'll go to a homeowner's consultation, design a project on the spot, build the estimate in real time using our platform, and ask for the business — all in one visit. All leads are provided. No cold calling, no door knocking. Our team fills your calendar; your job is to show up prepared and close.

This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role. You'll have real authority over your pipeline and real accountability for your results — and the income to match.

 

What You'll Own

In-home consultations — Meet with homeowners across the west metro, learn what they're looking for, and bring ideas and options they hadn't considered.

On-the-spot design and estimating — Use our estimating and contract platform to design the project and present a proposal during the consultation. No waiting on a quote.

Closing — Present pricing with confidence, handle objections, and ask for the business.

Product knowledge — Know our product lines — composite decking systems, louvered pergola technology, railing, drainage, outdoor kitchen components — well enough to design and recommend on the fly.

Pipeline management — Stay organized, follow up when needed, and manage your active opportunities without dropping the ball.

Community presence — Attend in-person events — home shows, trade shows, street fairs — where we

have a booth and a presence in the market.

 

Who You Are

You win by being the most prepared and most trusted person in the room. You ask better questions than the last three contractors. You're honest about what won't work. And you close — not because you're pushy, but because clients trust you.

 

You're probably a fit if you:

• Have a proven track record of closing in a consultative sales environment
• Can learn complex products and communicate them simply and confidently
• Are organized enough to manage your own schedule and pipeline without being chased
• Communicate professionally with high-end homeowners — you know how to read the room
• Take ownership of your results — the commission structure rewards performance, and you're comfortable with that
• Are genuinely curious about design, outdoor spaces, and what makes a project right for a client
• Are self-directed but collaborative — you implement strategies, share what's working, and keep getting better

 

Bonus points for:

• Experience in construction, home improvement, or luxury product sales
• Familiarity with CRM and estimating platforms
• Knowledge of premium outdoor living products (TimberTech, StruXure, etc.)

 

Requirements

• Sales experience (3-5 years min)
• Valid Minnesota driver's license
• Must pass a background check
• Personal vehicle required (2016 or newer)
