Assistant County Attorney

The Clinton County Attorney's Office is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Clinton County Attorney, with an anticipated start date in Summer or Fall 2026. A flexible start date may be available for qualified candidates. The Assistant County Attorney performs professional legal work involving criminal prosecution, juvenile matters, civil representation of the County, and other duties as assigned by the County Attorney. This position offers significant courtroom and trial experience. Attorneys in the office are provided opportunities to handle a broad range of criminal prosecutions and gain valuable litigation experience early in their careers. The successful candidate will work closely with law enforcement agencies, county departments, victims, witnesses, and members of the public in carrying out the mission of the County Attorney's Office. Qualifications Job Description Previous prosecution experience is preferred but is not required. Recent law school graduates and entry‑level candidates are encouraged to apply. Preference may be given to applicants who have completed a prosecution internship, legal clinic, judicial clerkship, or law firm clerkship. Applicants must possess, or be eligible to obtain, a license to practice law in the State of Iowa. Candidates awaiting bar examination results may be considered, and non‑courtroom duties may be assigned pending admission to the Iowa Bar. Salary And Benefits Salary Range: $84,968.00- $90,646.40 annually, depending upon qualifications and experience. Regular attendance during normal business hours and availability for court proceedings, meetings, and other official duties are required. Because this position involves law enforcement functions, applicants will be subject to a background investigation prior to a final offer of employment.
