Equipment Operator

Christman Southeast Constructors (CSEC) seeks an Equipment Operator for our Knoxville, Tennessee site. The role demands safe handling and operation of construction equipment, including excavators, telescopic boom forklifts, and skid loaders. What You Will Do Operate all equipment safely and appropriately to mitigate risks of injury and property damage. Drive and control equipment to complete tasks at specified locations. Collaborate with internal and external partners to prepare job sites for assigned equipment activities. Conduct constant surveillance of surroundings before and during operation to ensure safe ground and slope conditions; maintain adequate distance from other equipment, people, and structures. Perform daily pre‑inspection of equipment to ensure it is safe and fit for duty; conduct ongoing maintenance checks. Address any equipment issues or concerns immediately with the assigned supervisor. Load and unload equipment from vehicles used for transport. Promptly notify supervisor of any maintenance needs. Remain stationary in the seat or operating area for prolonged periods as required. Complete required reports and other paperwork related to equipment use. Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and elevate problems as appropriate. Communicate clearly through phone or radio, visible verbal, and non verbal hand signals. Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation. Comply with federal and state regulations, and company policies and procedures. Complete assigned and required training for this role. Work Environment & Physical Demands The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site. Work is exposed to loud noises and sounds from construction equipment. Protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, high‑visibility clothing) is required on site. Temperatures and conditions may vary with weather and season. Tasks involve standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Frequent lifting/pushing/pulling up to 25 lb and occasionally up to 50 lb. Expected Hours of Work Full‑time position. Extended hours and weekends may apply. Travel Travel to and from the construction site is required. Most travel will be local; some long‑distance and overnight travel may be required depending on the project. Qualifications Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Required: Minimum 3 to 5 years of equipment operating experience in a construction environment, including 1 to 3 years of excavation experience. Required: Equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Preferred: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Preferred: 40‑hour HAZWOPER training with current 8‑hour HAZWOPER refresher. Preferred: OSHA 30‑hour training. Preferred: First Aid/CPR certification. Preferred: Knowledge in OSHA regulations regarding excavation methods. Preferred: Ability to read and interpret load charts for associated equipment and manufacturer‑approved attachments. Preferred: Ability to work in all safe outdoor weather conditions. Successful completion of pre‑employment screening, including drug and background checks, is required.
