Position Title Custodian Job Category University Staff Employment Type Regular Job Profile Custodian Key Job Responsibilities Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables Responds to facility emergency and hazardous situations, and escalates incidents according to established policies and procedures Schedules, monitors, and communicates with staff and assists with basic training Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities Compensation The minimum starting salary is $15.00 per hour. The hourly rate for this position is negotiable based on experience and available budget. A six-month probation is required. Required Qualifications Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions and prioritize non-routine situations Willingness to learn and become proficient with standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, tools, products, and equipment used in providing custodial services Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the position’s duties Excellent work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness Work independently and as part of a team environment, and on collaborative efforts Willingness to learn basic computer skills Preferred Qualifications Required to pass the Essential Job Function Screening Must pass a criminal background check Required to clean up bodily fluids/bloodborne pathogens Benefits Employee Benefits: Health & Retirement Contributions Estimator available at Equal Opportunity Employer UW is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
