Accounting Assistant - AP & AR

Kelly Services is seeking an experienced Accounting Assistant Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable Specialist for a temp-to-hire opportunity with a manufacturing operation in Moonachie, NJ. This role is ideal for an organized accounting professional who enjoys a hands-on environment and is comfortable managing both customer billing and vendor invoices.

What You'll Do:

• Prepare and issue customer invoices based on shipments, packing slips, and purchase orders.
• Ensure customer billing is accurate and processed on time.
• Monitor customer accounts and follow up on past-due balances.
• Apply customer payments and resolve unapplied cash.
• Maintain customer account records and resolve billing discrepancies.
• Assist with AR aging reports and month-end close.

Accounts Payable:

• Review, code, and process vendor invoices.
• Perform 3-way matching of purchase orders, receiving documents, and invoices.
• Verify invoice approvals and supporting documentation.
• Assist with weekly ACH, check, and wire payment processing.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate vendor files and compliance documentation.

Manufacturing Accounting Support:

• Work with Purchasing, Production, Warehouse, and Quality teams to resolve invoice and receiving issues.
• Assist with inventory and production-related cost tracking.
• Support tracking of scrap, rework, freight, logistics, tooling, and maintenance expenses.
• Ensure costs are accurately allocated within the ERP system.
• Assist with month-end and plant accounting activities.
• Support process improvements focused on accounting accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications:

• 25 years of AR/AP experience preferred.
• Manufacturing or industrial accounting experience is a plus.
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• ERP experience required; JDE or similar manufacturing ERP experience preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis.
• Understanding of basic manufacturing accounting and cost flow, including inventory, purchase orders, and receiving.
