About the Role
The Company is in search of a Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel (CLO) to serve as its most senior legal executive. The CLO will be responsible for providing legal strategy, oversight, and accountability for all legal and regulatory functions across the organization. This includes directly supervising the Senior Vice President of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, setting legal strategy and risk tolerance, and personally handling the organization's highest-risk and highest-complexity legal matters. The successful candidate will be a key figure in ensuring the soundness, timeliness, and reliability of legal and regulatory risk management, as well as the performance and development of the legal function as a whole. Applicants for the CLO position at the company must demonstrate the highest level of confidentiality, ethical standards, and integrity. The role requires maintaining attorney-client privilege, handling sensitive institutional information, and complying with professional responsibility rules. The CLO will be measured by the effectiveness of U.S. Department of Education recognition, complaints oversight, and governance. This is a senior leadership role with a remote work arrangement, involving periodic travel. The ideal candidate will have a strong legal background, with a focus on education or regulatory law, and a proven track record in legal and regulatory risk management.
