Safety Manager

Job Summary Responsible for implementing, administering and monitoring all IES safety policies, procedures and programs for the locations, departments and projects within your assigned geographical region and/or assigned client. Ensures compliance with all IES and Site/Customer safety policies and procedure, as well as Federal and State Standards. Develops and manages Safety/Health initiatives aimed at preventing and eliminating occupational incidents, injuries and illnesses. Performs and instructs in proper techniques to proactively analyze, evaluate, and address workplace hazards and incidents. Job Duties and Responsibilities Fully support all IES and Site/Customer safety policies, procedures and programs and Federal and State Standards. Ensure implementation and compliance with IES Safety Policies, Procedures and Programs within the Communications Division and Site/Customer Site Specific Policies, Procedures and Programs. Support and provide guidance for operations in development of an action plan for any branch, office or project within your region not meeting safety goals and expectations. Perform safety presentations and develop safety presentations and related training as required. Schedule and coordinate safety audits/inspections to determine compliance with all IES and Site/Customer safety policies, procedures and programs and federal, state safety standards. Conduct or direct activities aimed at identifying potential hazards and develop safety action plans to correct any non‑compliance issues and work with operations and management for implementation. Develop processes and plans to reduce or eliminate hazards and safety incidents. Deliver and coordinate safety training for management in accident prevention techniques, compliance with IES safety policies, procedures and programs and federal and state standards. As needed, prepare written reports and summaries to provide concise, meaningful information regarding safety audits, investigations and issues. Conduct and coordinate root cause investigations on recordable incidents, near misses and vehicle incidents. Utilize the root cause analysis to help operations identify and implement corrective actions to help prevent future recurrence of similar incidents. Establish committees, conference calls/video, etc. to establish communication within your region. Notify the Director of Safety and DSM of any OSHA inspection within your region and provide guidance to your local resources and/or attend if physically feasible. Prepare and maintain safety related records and reports; including but not limited to OSHA 300 logs and incident data for your region and/or assigned client. Teach, counsel and mentor all stakeholders to uphold the IES Safety Culture. Participate in the hiring and managing site safety coordinators and managers. Participate in claims reviews for claims within your region and Division as needed. Travel as required for business needs. Other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Physical and Mental Requirements Must be self‑motivated, positive in approach, professional and lead others to create, develop and implement project process improvement(s). Must promote Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners. Must act as the Company liaison for interface with customer, vendor, contractor, and IES representative(s). Must possess proven problem‑solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentations. Must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed. Must possess the manual dexterity, flexibility and visual acuity to perform inspection functions requiring walking, climbing, squatting, lifting, bending, twisting, etc. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and distinguish all applicable codes, colors and symbols correctly. Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs. Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner. Must possess the ability to learn the Company and customer computer systems. Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency; Associate degree or higher preferred. Must possess a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in construction safety, preferably in the telecommunications or electrical industry; or a combination related work experience and time (to be reviewed). Knowledge of the OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction. Knowledge and experience with the Confined Space Entry Standards 1926.1200 Subpart AA. Current status as an Authorized OSHA OTI 500 Construction Outreach Trainer. CHST (Construction Health/Safety Technician) Certification or equivalent. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer knowledge and experience utilizing MS Office (WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint & Outlook). Must be detail‑oriented with high level organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively with project stakeholders including field personnel, IES management and customer interfaces. Ability to respond as needed in support of all safety emergency situations with or without advance notice. Must meet Company minimum driving standards. Must have proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously. Additional Certifications and Skills Must have CHST (will consider other BCSP certifications) and/or CSMC. Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety. OSHA 510/500, OSHA 30, First Aid CPR certified. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Excel, PowerPoint. Strong communications skills and good customer relations skills. Willing to travel within a region and work overtime and weekends as needed. Salary: USD $115,000.00 per year.
