Senior Medical Director, Oncology Clinical Development - Sarcoma

For candidates seeking to be located at our Stevenage site, this role will temporarily be based at Stevenage. However, the Company plans to relocate its offices to Cambridge, UK. The location of this role will therefore subsequently change to Cambridge, UK in accordance with timelines to be set by the Company. The relocation is currently proposed to take effect by early 2029.The Senior Medical Director, Oncology Clinical Development – Sarcoma, is a senior physician leader within the clinical programme team, providing medical oversight, strategic clinical insight, and a patient-centred perspective across the design, conduct, and interpretation of clinical studies. This role ensures that medical considerations, patient safety, and clinical integrity are consistently applied across studies within a programme.Operating within the clinical strategy defined by the Clinical Development Lead (CDL), the Senior Medical Director partners closely with the Senior Scientist and cross-functional teams to guide the integration of physician expertise into study execution and programme-level decision-making. The role serves as a senior member of the Clinical Matrix Team (CMT), contributing to complex clinical decisions, regulatory interactions, and external scientific engagement.The Senior Medical Director provides matrixed oversight to the clinical team within the programme, supporting consistency of clinical judgement, safety evaluation, and medical interpretation across studies.PLEASE NOTE: This career opportunity requires an on-site office presence (minimum of two days a week) at one of GSK’s Switzerland (Zug), UK (Stevenage or London HQ) or US (PA or MA) sites.In This Role You member of the CMT, influencing study-level and programme-level decision-makingEngage with investigators, Key External Experts (KEEs), and scientific leaders to support external engagement and represent the programme at advisory boards, steering committees, and scientific forumsProvide medical guidance and mentorship to Medical Directors within the programme, supporting consistency and collaboration with pharmacovigilance, supporting signal detection, escalation, and benefit–risk evaluation across the programmeParticipate in and contribute to safety review forums (e.g., SRT, IDMC), providing senior physician perspective on complex safety questionsEnsure medical monitoring approaches are aligned across studies and consistent with regulatory and organisational standardsStudy Design and ExecutionProvide senior medical input into protocol development across studies, ensuring clinical relevance, feasibility, and alignment with the clinical strategy defined by the CDLGuide clinical aspects of study design and protocol implementation, particularly for complex, high-risk, or multi-study programmesSupport resolution of complex medical questions arising during study conduct, applying clinical judgement to inform programme-level decision-makingEnsure consistency of medical considerations across multiple studies within the programmeData Interpretation and scientists within the programme, supporting consistency and quality of medical input across studiesSupport development of clinical capability within the medical team, including coaching on medical monitoring, data interpretation, and external engagementContribute to talent development, performance discussions, and capability building within Oncology Clinical DevelopmentBasic Qualifications:Medical degree and completion of advanced specialty training, fellowship or country-equivalent higher-level qualification in medical oncology, pediatric oncology or hematology.Experience in sarcoma oncology, including leading drug development.Clinical and pharmaceutical experience in oncology clinical development, with depth across multiple studies or programmesExperience in medical monitoring, safety evaluation, and clinical data interpretation across clinical studiesUnderstanding of clinical development processes, GCP, ICH guidelines, and global regulatory frameworksExperience operating within cross-functional matrix teams and contributing to complex clinical and programme-level decisionsPreferred Qualifications:Deep expertise in soft tissue sarcoma and osteosarcoma, including experience leading or supporting clinical development programs across early and/or late-stage clinical studies.Strong scientific communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence internal and external audiencesDeep experience in oncology clinical development across multiple studies or programmes, including Phase I–IIIExperience contributing to or leading aspects of regulatory interactions (e.g., IND, scientific advice, NDA/MAA)Demonstrated experience engaging with KEEs, advisory boards, and scientific communities in oncologyTrack record of scientific publications and congress presentationsDeep understanding of oncology disease biology and the evolving treatment landscape across solid tumours and/or haematological malignanciesExperience contributing to clinical and technical diligence for business development opportunitiesSkillsClinical Data Interpretation, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Trial Designs, Leadership, Real World Evidence (RWE), Scientific Presentations, Strategic Direction• If you are based in Cambridge, MA; Waltham, MA; Rockville, MD; or San Francisco, CA, the annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges $284,250 to $473,750. The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
