Details Surgical PCU with near-ICU level acuity at a teaching hospital Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), Thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), General Surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), Urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow patients Staffing ratio of 1:3-4 Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30) Required to work every other weekend with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals across Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU levels of care May be required to provide charge nurse coverage with training and resources provided May be assigned precepting or student shadowing responsibilities as this is a teaching facility Requirements Active RN license (IN or Compact) required in hand prior to start date Current ACLS and BLS certification required Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Cerner charting experience preferred Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred Previous charge nurse experience preferred Proficient in cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, fresh trach care, feeding tube management, epidural management, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols and titration, external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and Doppler flap checks Nursing degree must be from a college or university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation 2 supervisor references required SSN and DOB required for consideration Additional Information Provide surgical progressive care nursing to a high-acuity patient population including ENT, thoracic, general surgery, and urology cases Refusal to float may result in contract termination Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays First-time travelers are welcome to apply Local candidates are not accepted for this position Former IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility (3 months for out-of-state residents, 6 months for in-state residents) American Traveler Job ID P-749647.
