Kindergarten/1st Grade Teacher at Sherrills Ford Elementary (26-27 SY) Sherrills Ford Elementary School – Sherrills Ford, North Carolina Starting Date: Aug 10, 2026 Job Title: Teacher FLSA Status: Exempt Benefits Status: Full‑Time, 10 months Salary Range (Monthly): $4,100 – $5,595 (with Bachelor's degree; based on experience) Reports To: Principal Supervisor(s): May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants. Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Responsibilities A. Management of Instructional Time: Ensures materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson are ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; brings students on task promptly; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. B. Management of Student Behavior: Establishes rules and procedures that govern routine administrative matters, verbal participation, and student movement; monitors behavior during lessons and transitions; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity. C. Instructional Presentation: Begins instruction with a lesson review; introduces objectives; speaks fluently and precisely; presents concepts in language understandable to students; provides examples and demonstrations; assigns tasks; asks level‑appropriate questions; conducts instruction briskly, adjusting pacing as needed; transitions smoothly; ensures assignments are clear; summarizes main points at the end. D. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Maintains clear, firm and reasonable standards and due dates; circulates during class work to check student performance; uses oral, written, and other products to check progress; poses questions clearly and one at a time. E. Instructional Feedback: Provides feedback on correctness/incorrectness of in‑class work; gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirms correct responses; provides sustaining feedback after an incorrect or no response by probing, repeating, giving clues, or allowing more time. F. Facilitating Instruction: Has an instructional plan compatible with school and system‑wide curricular goals; uses diagnostic information from tests and assessments to develop/revise objectives; maintains accurate records; aligns objectives, strategies, assessment, and student needs; utilizes available resources to support instruction. G. Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treats all students fairly and equitably; interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community. H. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned or when needed; adheres to laws, policies, regulations; follows a professional development plan and demonstrates growth. Additional Job Functions: Performs other related work as required. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs; negligible force required to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects; consistent with Light Work. Data Conception: Ability to compare/judge functional characteristics of data, people or things. Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak/signals people, receive instructions, assignments, directions from superiors. Language Ability: Ability to read correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists; prepare correspondence, reports, instructional materials using prescribed formats. Intelligence: Apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions; interpret technical instructions. Verbal Aptitude: Record and deliver information; explain procedures; follow oral/written instructions; communicate in technical/professional languages including medical, legal, counseling terminology. Numerical Aptitude: Use mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, divide; use decimals, percentages; apply statistical concepts. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspect items for proper length, width, shape. Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately using office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Handle items such as office equipment and hand tools; minimal eye/hand/foot coordination. Color Discrimination: Differentiate color shades. Interpersonal Temperament: Handle people beyond giving instructions; adapt to stress and emergencies. Physical Communication: Talk, hear, communicate via telephone. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially during inclusive activities. Motivate students. Maintain a clean and orderly environment. Perform general clerical duties. Maintain order and discipline in the classroom. Operate common office machines. Maintain basic files and records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
