Job Overview Open Until Filled Position: Preschool Teacher Assistant. Three openings supporting traditional preschool classrooms at Lincoln, Newport Coast, and Pomona Elementary. Work 6.25 hours per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per year. Special Requirements Effective September 1, 2016, California Health and Safety Code Section 1596.7995 requires that all preschool employees be immunized against influenza, pertussis, and measles. Conditional employment may be granted for up to 30 days if an employee submits immunization records and a written statement of immunization. Otherwise, full immunization or exemption must be completed before commencing employment. Basic Function Under the direction of the assigned Administrator, assist the teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom or other learning environment; assist instructional staff and teachers in conducting early learning and child development activities and in the preparation of instructional materials; provide care, supervision, and learning activities to pre‑kindergarten age children enrolled in a district early learning program. Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from high school and six (6) semester units of early childhood education or child development core classes at an accredited college, university, or occupational program. Six semester units are required; transcripts must be included with the application. Exam & Selection Process Supplemental questions and certification review are required at application. Written examination: 50%; qualifications appraisal interview: 50%. Examinations and interviews will be conducted virtually and may require video recording or conferencing. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for future substitute and regular positions. Representative Duties Facilitate individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher. Assist the teacher in implementing lesson plans and conducting early learning activities. Prepare instructional materials and maintain student files. Set up work areas, displays, and administer supplies. Collect and organize data on student learning; follow up on absences. Monitor lunchroom, recess, and playground activities; lead indoor and outdoor activities; accompany students on field trips. Observe and manage student behavior according to approved procedures; report progress. Perform clerical duties such as preparing, typing, copying, and filing materials. Operate classroom and office equipment (copier, printer, laminator, computer). Assist children with toileting and changing; promote self‑help skills. Ensure health and safety of students; administer basic first aid; seek assistance for non‑routine illnesses. Maintain a neat, clean, and safe classroom and playground atmosphere. Perform special projects and prepare materials as requested. Attend meetings and participate in required training, workshops, and professional growth activities. Perform additional duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities General principles and practices of early childhood development. Knowledge of child growth, development, and behavior characteristics of pre‑kindergarten children. Familiarity with district policies, rules, and regulations. Basic instructional methods and techniques. Basic subjects taught in district schools (arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, reading). Classroom procedures and student conduct standards. Safe practices in classroom and playground activities. English usage, spelling, grammar, and arithmetic concepts. Routing, filing, and record‑keeping procedures. Oral and written communication skills. Operation of office and classroom equipment. Interpersonal skills (tact, patience, courtesy). Correct English usage, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Basic record‑keeping techniques. Working Conditions Environment: Classroom and playground. Hearing, speaking, and seeing requirements for communication and observation. Standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods. Bending, kneeling, or crouching to assist children. Lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects or children.
