After School Instructor

Job Summary After School Instructors may work with a group of up to 20 students from TK – 8th grade. Daily tasks involve tutoring, homework assistance, educational enrichment, and maintaining a fun and organized atmosphere. Instructors integrate Catalyst programs with school activities, share district classroom spaces, and collaborate closely with school district staff. They report to the Site Coordinator at their respective site. Key Responsibilities Provide tutoring and homework assistance to help students meet national standards. Collaborate with the Site Coordinator to create and implement Catalyst ExpandEd Learning (ExL) curriculum, rules, and procedures, including new curriculum introduced during the school year. Offer educational enrichment that may include positive youth development strategies, recreation and prevention activities, and teach youth positive life skills. Work collaboratively with internal staff (Catalyst ExL peers and Catalyst Kids, where applicable) and external district staff and teachers. Track students’ progress using programmatic protocol and ensure consistent supervision, maintaining a safe and supported environment. Complete all necessary safety documentation, including injury reports and license‑exempt Unusual Incident Reports (UIRs). Track daily attendance and meet after‑school enrichment and safety requirements. Fill out lesson planning forms weekly and maintain professionalism with students and families. Relay feedback from students and parents to the Site Coordinator, contributing to program improvement. Attend regular staff and district meetings, support family and site‑based events, and assist other sites when needed. Apply approved behavior management techniques to support children with challenging behaviors, ensuring a positive learning environment. Undergo and maintain all required health, safety, education, and HR trainings, including district‑required trainings. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance student learning. Prepare and adapt classroom settings, carrying and arranging furniture (up to 25 pounds) and materials to accommodate mobile classroom needs. Promote an inclusive environment of teamwork to ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles are practiced in department operations, programs, and services. Education & Experience High School Diploma or equivalent (minimum required). Must meet district requirements which may vary by location (e.g., exam pass, Paraprofessional certification). College units in education, recreation, child development desired. Minimum of 6 months’ experience working with children preferred. Other Qualifications At least 18 years of age. Ability to manage a classroom of up to 20 students (TK – 8th grade). Clear verbal and written communication, discretion in sensitive situations, and open communication channels. Understanding of behavior management and effective strategies for guiding student behavior. Highly organized with exceptional interpersonal and partnering relationship skills. Enthusiastic, highly motivated, and child‑focused. Proven leadership and team‑building skills. Excellent time‑management skills and flexible, team‑oriented attitude. Ability to meet state and district‑specific requirements (Fingerprint LIVE SCAN, CPR/First Aid, Medical Certificate/TB test, Mandated Reporter training, Food Handlers Permit where applicable).
