About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Adult Medical Specialty Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active IL license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Central Lines, tracheostomies, chest tubes experience; EPIC experience preferred; travel experience on a MedSurg Floor preferred Description: The unit comprises 56 private and semi-private beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 from 07:00-23:00 and 1:5-6 from 23:00-07:30. Common diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, behavioral health, and addictions. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common titratable and/or set rate drips include Heparin and Lasix. A charge nurse is available on each shift, and they do not take an assignment. Patient care techs assist with vital signs, accucheks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living (ADLs) with a ratio of 1:8-10. Respiratory equipment used includes Bipap and Cpap for sleep apnea, as well as inhalers and suctioning. Telemetry is monitored remotely, and RNs can view strips on a pack or computer. Shifts consist of three 12-hour shifts from 07:00-19:30. Every other weekend working is required, along with varying holiday requirements. Floating to other acute care general medical areas may be necessary. Professional scrubs in any color are required, with no visible tattoos or piercings except ears. Unit-specific orientation consists of two to three shifts.
