Perioperative Registered Nurse

Under general supervision the RN perioperative nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Macon Community Hospital. In collaboration with the patient, the patient's family and other members of the healthcare team, the perioperative RN assesses, plans, implements and coordinates treatment plans for the patient's medical condition in the perioperative setting (Endoscopy, Surgical and Recovery).

Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current Registered Nursing License in the State of Tennessee or multistate Registered Nursing License.

B. Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

C. Experience: One (1) year experience in acute care, or skilled nursing facility.

D. Special qualifications: Current licensure in the State of Tennessee as a Registered Nurse or multistate Registered Nursing License. BLS – healthcare provider. Good communication skills, both orally and written. Basic computer knowledge to utilize electronic health record system. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider, Pediatric Advanced Life Support recommended.

Degree of Supervision Required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Perioperative Nursing Supervisor. The employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.

2-12 Year - Pediatric

13-18 Years - Adolescent

19-69 Years - Adult

70 + - Geriatric

N/A - No responsibility to treat or care for patients

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Constant: sitting, seeing, hearing, and finger dexterity. Constant concentration in fine details with frequent interruptions. Occasional: pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, using arm, leg and back muscles may be required. May be expected to lift less than 25 pounds. Manage stress appropriately, handle multiple priorities. Make decisions under stress. Work along and manage anger, fear, hostility and violence of others appropriately.

Personal Protective Equipment: This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks/activities. Personal protective equipment includes, but is not limited to, gloves, masks, gowns, and safety glasses.
