Waubonsee Community College’s Arts and Humanities Division is currently seeking an adjunct instructor to teach SGN101‑American Sign Language in the college’s Sign Language (SGN) program. This course is an introduction to American Sign Language (ASL), explores American Sign Language sign vocabulary and grammatical structures, and also serves as a basic introduction to Deaf culture. Schedule SGN101.001‑American Sign Language – Sugar Grove Campus, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 am – 9:15 am (traditional modality), 8/17/26 – 12/12/26. SGN101.001‑American Sign Language – Aurora Downtown Campus, Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30 am – 10:45 am (traditional modality), 8/17/26 – 12/12/26. Responsibilities Design syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments to meet the established course description, as well as program, course, and college learning outcomes and/or objectives while addressing each student’s needs as diverse learners. Meet all college deadlines for submission of attendance, grades and data collection for assessment of student learning. Incorporate learning‑centered principles and concepts while motivating students to actively participate in their educational experiences. Integrate instructional and classroom technology (if applicable) appropriately and effectively to deliver and enhance teaching and learning. Work collaboratively with professional colleagues to serve the needs of students and the community. Model professionalism with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Interpreter Education, Deaf Studies, or related field and 4000 hours of work‑related experience in the field. Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf certification and/or be a native ASL user. Fluency in sign language. Preferred Experience Masters Degree in Linguistics, Interpreter Education, Deaf Studies, or related field. Experience and/or equivalent occupational experience in the field of sign language. Teaching at a Community College or Vocational/Technical institution. Teaching traditionally underserved populations. Incorporating technology and multimedia applications into teaching and learning process. Teaching in multiple instructional modalities. Utilizing Learning Management Systems.
