About Us Totally Kids Specialty Healthcare is a small pediatric sub‑acute hospital with 45 patients. We are the only long‑term care hospital dedicated entirely to children, caring for residents aged newborn through 21 years. Our mission is to enrich the health and quality of life of our patients by meeting their medical, developmental, social, psychological, and spiritual needs. Position Summary We are looking for a skilled full‑time Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) to join our compassionate caregiving team. The RCP will interact directly with patients, providing basic respiratory care including appropriate monitoring during therapies. Responsibilities include ventilator management, airway insertion and maintenance, assessment, and monitoring of respiratory status, as well as performing spirometry procedures. Qualifications Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license issued by the State of California (mandatory). Working knowledge of all respiratory care procedures, modalities, and equipment used in pediatric and adolescent care. Graduate of an AMA‑approved Respiratory Therapy program. One year of respiratory care experience in an acute or sub‑acute pediatric facility (preferred). Certifications: CRTT or RRT issued by the NBRC (RRT preferred), BCLS, PALS (required); ACLS preferred. Responsibilities Provide basic respiratory care and monitoring during therapies. Perform critical respiratory care, including high/low flow oxygen delivery, monitoring, and invasive/non‑invasive ventilatory support. Perform tracheostomy care and tube changes. Identify and provide resident or family education as needed. Communicate clearly and effectively with other staff to facilitate optimal care. Respond promptly to “stat” teams and CPR situations, managing the airway and providing respiratory care as necessary. Be a proactive team member and act professionally at all times. Check for backup tracheostomies and ambu bags during bedside endorsement. Ensure proper patient assessment at the start of each shift. Administer treatments promptly per physician orders. Cover patient rooms when nurses are on break or busy. Maintain patent and clear airways at all times. Document medication administration (e.g., Xopenex, Pulmicort, Mucomyst) and update water bottles, circuits, and filters. Offer assistance whenever available. Endorse medication keys and patient condition at bedside. Physical Requirements Crouch/stoop as required. Lift or carry objects up to 45 pounds. Discern colors and have fine motor skills. Stand, reach in all directions, and have 20/20 vision (corrected with devices allowed). Hearing and comprehension sufficient for communication (corrective devices allowed). Speak, read, write, and listen in English at an essential level for a sub‑acute facility. Normal physical stamina; bend and twist as needed. Full use of both hands. Walk intermittently, 6 to 10 hours per shift. Perform chest compressions and hand‑resuscitator ventilation during CPR. Education Provided Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and fire safety classes are provided by the facility.
