Emergency Room Nurse

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Room Nurse for a 15-week contract position. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in an emergency department and possess strong skills in both adult and pediatric care. This role requires a commitment to working every other weekend and accommodating holiday schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive patient care in a fast-paced emergency department setting.
• Monitor, assess, and treat patients with various medical emergencies including trauma, STEMI, and stroke cases.
• Perform advanced clinical procedures such as arterial line management, IV sedation, and blood product administration.
• Utilize effective triage practices to prioritize patient treatment.
• Administer medications and monitor patient responses, including the interpretation of dysrhythmias and management of IV vasopressors.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal care for patients of all age groups.

Qualifications

• Must have active ACLS, BLS, CPI, NIHSS, PALS certifications.
• Previous experience working within a Trauma Level I or II facility is preferred.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in charting systems, specifically Cerner.
• Experience in managing a patient ratio of 4 is required.
• Travel experience is necessary for this role.

Skills Required

• General Emergency Department skills for both adults and pediatrics.
• Ability to provide care for complex cases including gunshot wounds, near drowning, and traumatic injuries.
• Expertise in continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation, and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
• Strong management skills for spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries.
• Comprehensive knowledge of isolation precautions and triage practices.

Orientation hours are included, and a commitment to ongoing professional development is expected. Candidates should be prepared for an advanced EKG exam, which consists of rhythm strip interpretations and general questions.
