Overview The United States Capitol Police safeguards Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. This role involves training officers in subjects such as security screening, defensive tactics, use of force, basic investigative techniques, and related law enforcement topics. Responsibilities This position serves as a Training Instructor for the In-Service and/or Recruit Officer Training Program at the USCP Training Academy in Cheltenham, Maryland, and may also require alternate duties in Washington, D.C. The incumbent will assist in developing, presenting, and evaluating law‑enforcement training courses; prepare course outlines and lesson plans; provide instruction on specialized subject matter; rate and score trainees; analyze results and recommend training policies; research and analyze case law; revise course content; conduct testing; maintain records; and manage administrative duties such as scheduling and property management. Travel Occasional travel to other Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) and related training events. Requirements Must be a current USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant, must have attained the rank of Private First Class, and must have successfully completed the probationary period by the closing date. Must possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license and complete all required training. Qualifications Full and unrestricted duty status as of the selection date (unless authorized by law). All eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date. Education No education substitution for experience in this series and/or grade. Additional Information This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions and is included in a collective bargaining unit.
