Counsel, Claim

Job Overview Senior Counsel – Legal, Claims (Travelers). This role is part of Travelers’ national legal organization and focuses on handling litigation arising from claims asserted against policyholders or Travelers. Responsibilities include trial work, complex litigation in major cases, and training client partners. Salary Salary Range: $132,800.00 – $219,100.00 (nationwide). Responsibilities Leverage trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions. Conduct advanced legal research and provide persuasive legal writing. Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other legal documents. Attend court events, depositions, and appointments independently. Provide substantive case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and Claim partners. Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants for case strategy. Build and maintain strong internal and external client relationships. Provide training, seminars, and legal updates to clients and partners. Mentor other attorneys and legal support staff. Initiate special projects and identify other opportunities. Utilize technology, case management system and automation. Travel as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Ideal Candidate Qualifications 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience. Strong record of trying cases to a jury with successful outcomes. Advanced oral and written advocacy, summary judgment and appellate success. In‑depth knowledge of relevant bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices. Excellent collaborative and client service skills. Strong leadership and mentoring abilities. Advanced negotiation and decision‑making skills. Excellent time‑management, attention to detail, sense of urgency and responsiveness. Flexible, agile mindset and willingness to take on new challenges. Must‑Have Requirements Juris Doctor or equivalent accredited law school degree. 7 years experience as a practicing attorney. Active license in good standing to practice law in the required states. Regularly handles hearings, trials, dispositive motions, depositions. Valid driver’s license (as required by location).
