Overview Prepare, serve, and handle food in accordance with federal and state regulations and the residence policies and procedures. Maintain clean and sanitized dining service areas and assist in the receiving, rotation, and storage of products. Responsibilities You should be able to follow recipes and scale up or down appropriately. Use common sense and cooking knowledge to adjust seasonings as needed. Adhere to dietary requirements (e.g., mechanical soft, lactose free, gluten free, vegetarian). Read and follow individual menus at meal service time, placing the correct items on each plate in a pleasing and appetizing manner. Utilize scratch and speed-scratch cooking techniques. Manage time effectively: multitask, prioritize tasks, work efficiently, and prepare and serve meals on time. Be flexible and able to make substitutions. Maintain station cleanliness and safety; follow a daily cleaning and closing checklist. Wash dishes and leave the station ready for the next shift. Be consistent, on-time, reliable, and pleasant. Notify the Food Service Director of any malfunctioning kitchen equipment or appliances. Interact with residents at meals when available and ensure quality service. Prepare food and coordinate food service for special events as requested. Assist with other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be able to work part-time hours, some evenings and weekends when needed. Experience in cooking for large groups. Certificate in food-preparation training preferred.
