JKL Bahweting Anishnabe School is accepting applications for a Sub Bus Driver. This is a school year position with an hourly starting wage of $21.50 per hour.

Position Summary

Provide safe and secure transportation for students, to and from Bahweting School and home, using established bus routes and designated stops. Maintain a clean bus and daily maintenance reports.

Essential Job Functions

1. Conduct a pre- and post-trip inspection of the school bus prior to every trip.

2. Use established bus routes and designated bus stops.

3. Operate the bus on the approved time schedule.

4. Report bus accidents and pupil injuries to authorities.

5. Conduct emergency evacuation drills in keeping with school policies.

6. Instruct passengers regarding their safety responsibilities.

7. Drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.

8. Drive with the safety of the students as the first priority.

9. Report personal absences in time for the supervisor to secure a substitute driver.

10. Perform bus housekeeping duties inside and out.

11. Establish favorable working relationships with other drivers, maintenance, personnel, teachers, students, principals and all school staff.

12. Must hold and maintain current CPI certification in verbal de-escalation and physical restraint (training provided by the school district).

13. Other related duties as assigned.

Accountability

1. Must be able to drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.

2. Must drive with the safety and security of the passengers as first priority.

3. Must maintain a detailed and accurate log of mileage, gas used, routine maintenance, cleaning, etc.

4. Must be able to teach students the safety standards and rules of the school bus.

5. Must demonstrate ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting pupils in the school district.

6. Must be knowledgeable of the geographic service area of the school district.

7. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by local, state, and federal authorities.

8. Must demonstrate ability to be firm, fair, and consistent when disciplining students.

9. Must demonstrate ability to be alert and exercise good judgment in all aspects of driving the vehicle and in handling students. Approved by School Board 6/14/2022

Qualifications

1. Candidates must possess a Class B CDL with Air Brake, Passenger, and "S" Endorsements.

2. Must have good hearing and at least 20/40 vision in each eye with or without glasses or contact lenses.

3. Must be in good physical health as determined by a physical examination.

4. Must have a good driving record and patience with children.

5. Must hold and maintain current CPI certification.

6. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

7. Demonstrates good communication skills with parents and professionalism in a variety of situations.

8. Must complete and pass a criminal history background check according to applicable laws and school board policies.

9. Will be required to comply with the drug and alcohol testing guidelines provided through the Department of Transportation.

10. Must comply with all rules and regulations pertaining to safety.

11. Must be able to speak English (speak, read, write, and comprehend).

Working Conditions/Safety Hazards

1. Driving in inclement weather and varying traffic conditions.

2. Interaction with a wide variety of students, including those with special needs.

3. May be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
