About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Adult Medical Specialty Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active IL license or confirmation of application process Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes. EPIC experience preferred. Description: The unit consists of both private and semi-private beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 from 07:00-23:00 and 1:5-6 from 23:00-07:30. Common diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health issues. Required skills include experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes. Candidates with experience in a Level I trauma center will be considered if they have EPIC experience. Registered Nurses are not required to titrate drips. Common diluted and set-rate drips include heparin and lasix. There is a charge nurse on each shift who does not take an assignment. Patient care technicians assist with vital signs, accucheks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living, with a ratio of 1:8-10. Respiratory equipment used includes BiPAP and CPAP for sleep apnea, as well as the administration of inhalers and suctioning. Telemetry is monitored remotely; Registered Nurses can view strips on a computer or pack. RNs should be prepared to float to other acute care general medicine areas as needed. Professional scrubs of any color are acceptable, and no visible tattoos or piercings except for ears are allowed. Unit-specific orientation consists of 2-3 shifts. Weekend requirements include every other weekend for day shifts and Friday/Saturday for night shifts. Holiday requirements vary. No call or standby requirement is in place.
