Summary The Store Manager assumes full responsibility for operating the Goodwill Retail Store. The Manager’s job is to lead, motivate, coach, and train the store employees while achieving and maximizing sales goals in compliance with Goodwill Industries’ policies and procedures. Essential Responsibilities Maintain appropriate inventory levels according to procedures for processing rotation, returns, pricing, and selling. Attractively display merchandise, using fixtures, decorative items, and other means to enhance the sales area and create an attractive shopping environment. Ensure the store looks its best when open for business and maintain that appearance throughout the day. Adopt a plan to ensure the store is cleaned before opening; perform activities such as rearranging inventory and rotating merchandise prior to opening whenever possible. Provide pleasant and polite attention to customers; train employees to be courteous and helpful to customers and donors. Respond promptly to customers’ and donors’ needs and opinions; handle complaints politely. Ensure all customers have a fair and equal opportunity to purchase merchandise. Work a flexible schedule, including weekends. Qualifications Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent customer service skills. Must pass a background test. Must pass a drug test. Prior felony convictions will not exclude you from employment unless job‑related. Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.) Stand, walk, and use hands for extended periods throughout an entire shift. Reach, climb, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed. Communicate effectively. Lift and move up to 25 pounds. Have specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Calculate figures and amounts, including discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry. Maintain regular and timely attendance. Work flexible hours, including weekends. Speak English; Spanish is a plus. Operate in a competitive market. Work with others safely and appropriately. Leadership Manager responsible for store operation from a remote location, guiding personnel and performing marketing and administrative duties to ensure goal attainment. Leads by example, develops a disciplined and motivated workforce that works harmoniously. Manages performance and conduct of employees by clearly explaining duties, providing training, scheduling, guiding performance improvement, and documenting personnel issues. Works with Regional Manager and Human Resources on hiring, promotion, discipline, and termination. Trains assistant manager and 3rd key holder to assume responsibilities in absence. Administration Operate the store per established policies and procedures, maintain business and commercial practices, observe opening and closing procedures, and secure the premises. Return to the store when required to reset alarms or attend emergencies. Protect company property by ensuring merchandise is removed only through authorized procedures. Report theft or damage immediately to supervisor and law enforcement when appropriate. Follow proper cash handling procedures: maintain a locked petty cash fund, make daily bank deposits, verify checks and credit cards, deposit sales receipts intact, complete daily sales reconciliation, investigate cash overages or shortages, and take disciplinary action if necessary. Maintain a neat, orderly, safe, and sanitary premises, keeping equipment in proper operating condition and reporting repairs or replacements as needed. Be alert for fire and safety hazards and report violations immediately. Ensure accurate and prompt completion of records: daily sales reconciliations, timecards, evaluations, authorization requests, and injury reports. Train employees to comply with procedures. Avoid unauthorized clerical activities that interfere with leadership responsibilities. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages 2–5 subordinate supervisors who supervise 5–30 employees in the Donated Goods Store. Directly supervises 5–25 non‑supervisory employees. Performs interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving complaints.
