Hourly Pay Range: $38.16 - $59.15 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate’s expertise and years of experience, among other factors. Position Highlights: Position: This position is a dual role of 0.5 FTE in the Clinical Nurse Educator - Department based role supporting ongoing staff development and 0.5 FTE in the RN role supporting unit staffing in 2L Med-Surg/Stroke/Tele (Salary Range for RN role is $36.00-$55.80). Location: Evanston, IL Full Time Hours: Department Based Educator: Monday-Friday; hours based on department needs. RN: Sunday-Saturday; hours based on unit needs A Brief Overview: A Nurse Educator is a nurse with previous clinical experience, who may or may not have had previous educational experience, whose focus is on staff development and nursing education. Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager and working in collaboration with Nursing Professional Development and Research, the nurse in this role functions as an educator, consultant, role model, staff/patient advocate, change agent, and leader. The Nurse Educator elevates the standard of professional nursing practice by developing, coaching and mentoring nursing staff. The Nurse Educator maintains proficiency as a Staff Nurse by providing patient care directly, precepting and/or providing bedside “just in time” education to the nursing staff. What you will do: This role includes providing direct patient care. Acts as a clinical resource to staff; maintains visibility in the clinical environment for just in time learning facilitation and/or assisting in providing direct patient care. Precepts registered nurses new to the department. Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate providing educational activities at various times of the day and various days of the week. Facilitates the onboarding of employees to ensure integration to the role on both unit and system-wide levels, focusing on retention and growth for licensed and unlicensed team members. Serve as a clinical mentor and role model for new and existing staff. Supports the role transition, role integration, skill acquisition and mastery as nursing staff advance from novice to expert. Promote a climate of learning that supports Patricia Benner’s “Novice to Expert” model, starting in the orientation period and continuing throughout a person’s development. Evaluates orientation and onboarding experiences to ensure newly hired team members are prepared to practice safely and independently. Collaborates with Clinical Nurse Manager and Clinical Coordinators to assess education and performance needs of staff. Serve as a resource to Clinical Managers/Clinical Coordinators in defining education and performance needs of staff. Partners with Clinical Nurse Manager and Clinical Coordinators to drive unit safety, quality outcomes and patient experience. Assists in the development and implementation of unit/service line/area-based competency requirements for nurses and patient care technicians. Promote a positive and professional climate and provide resources for learning that facilitate the life‑long learning process. Support and promote specialty certification preparation. Manage education and training processes/activities to foster learning using strategies that engage learners in critical inquiry, critical thinking, problem solving, and foster the development of competence in learners. Mentors and evaluates preceptors to enhance learning experiences for all new hires. Provides guidance for nurses in the “Transition to Practice” program, assisting in identification of a unit based Evidence Based project Organizes and acts as a resource for on unit in‑services for new products, equipment, policies/procedures/practice. In collaboration with Clinical Nurse Manager, partner with staff to lead unit council development and participation in shared decision making councils. Demonstrates knowledge of effective communication principles and promotes communication among disciplines. Designs educational programs that employs a variety of teaching‑learning strategies and the use of technology. If applicable, includes “skills days” Evaluates all learning activities using objective performance criteria and recommends corresponding changes in education plans. Performs other duties as assigned or required, including direct patient care. Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Travel as needed to the hospitals within the NorthShore system. Completes and archives checklists and/or attendance records of educational programs Assists in “Safe Patient Handling” skills day for RN/PCT orientation. Collaborate and standardize educational activities across service lines. What you will need: Bachelors Degree Nursing Required Masters Degree Nursing Preferred Demonstrated clinical nursing expertise with a minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience in a clinical practice setting. Proficient with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Proficiency in setting up virtual meetings and use of AV materials customary used in presentations. Ability to effectively interact with colleagues and all members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to engage in dialogue with diverse healthcare audiences Commitment to teamwork; ability to work with others to set and accomplish goals through collaboration and coordination. Presentation skills to provide nursing education to nursing audiences within your department Ability to conduct literature searches to investigate best practices, evidence based practices and/or research articles Willingness to attend educational seminars and conferences as required. Competent in oral and written communication Demonstrate effective leadership and interpersonal skills Possesses basic competency in computer skills.
