Road Construction Equipment Operator

Lee County is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Road Construction Equipment Operator to join our Roadway Construction team. In this role, you will help build and maintain the roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems that keep our community moving safely every day. Duties and Responsibilities

What You Will Do

• Install, replace, and repair drainage pipes and catch basins
• Build and repair sidewalks, driveways, and sod areas
• Load dump trucks and pickup trucks with trailers
• Mix concrete for sidewalks
• Set up and maintain MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) work zones
• Grind uneven sidewalks
• Clear trees and brush from the right-of-way
• Remove debris from catch basins and clean pipe ends by hand
• Work in tight spaces for basin or manhole repairs
• Operate equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, rollers, chipping hammers, concrete saws, sledgehammers, and laser levels
• Work independently and as part of a team
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Licensing

What We're Looking For

• High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• One (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment or similar work
• Ability to work in a safety-sensitive position and follow all safety rules and procedures

Licensing Requirements

• Must have a Florida Class B Commercial Learner's Permit and a good driving record at the time of hire.
• Must obtain a Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire.

Preferred:

• Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License.
• Previous experience driving heavy machines on work sites.

Safety-Sensitive Position

• This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing in accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382).

Training Requirements

• You will be required to complete in-house training for IMOT certification.
• You will set up and take down IMOT (Maintenance of Traffic) work zones.

Extra Skills

• Know how to use hand tools, power tools, and machines safely.
• Able to work outside in different weather.
• Able to talk and work well with team members.
• Can solve simple problems with machines or materials.

Work Schedule:

• Tuesday- Friday 7:00AM-5:30PM.
• Weekend or emergency response work may be required
• Additional hours may be needed during weather events or special operations
