Fairbury Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, student-centered leader to join our administrative team, during the 27-28 school year, as the Dean of Students for our elementary buildings. This 9.5 month Administrative/Certified staff position will report directly to the building Principal. The work calendar will begin approximately one week before the start of the regular teacher contract year and conclude approximately one week following the final teacher contract day, as determined annually by the district calendar. Additional summer work times may be assigned on an as-needed basis. Position Summary The Elementary Dean of Students supports a safe, positive, and student-centered learning environment by fostering student success academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally. The Dean of Students works collaboratively with administration, teachers, counselors, families, and support staff to implement proactive systems aligned to the district's PBIS and MTSS frameworks. The Dean of Students collaborates with the building principal on student discipline and serves the primary behavioral leader, overseeing student conduct, behavior interventions, restorative practices, attendance support, and school climate initiatives. The Dean works collaboratively with the building principal to ensure consistent implementation of school expectations and behavioral systems while supporting a positive learning environment for all students. In addition, the Dean of Students assists the principal with staff supervision, instructional support, and evaluation responsibilities. The Dean of Students may serve as a secondary evaluator for certified staff under the direction and supervision of the building principal and in accordance with district procedures and Nebraska Rule 10 requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Student Behavior and Discipline
- Serve as the primary administrator responsible for student discipline, in coordination with the building principal, and behavioral interventions within the building.
- Lead implementation and ongoing refinement of the school's PBIS framework and behavioral expectations.
- Respond to student disciplinary concerns using restorative, instructional, and relationship-based practices.
- Investigate student misconduct and coordinate with building principal to determine appropriate disciplinary responses consistent with district policy and procedures.
- Coordinate behavior intervention plans and supports for students with behavioral needs.
- Facilitate restorative conversations, conflict resolution, and re-entry meetings.
- Analyze behavioral data to identify trends and support intervention planning.
- Collaborate with MTSS teams to implement Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III behavioral supports.
- Participate in crisis response, de-escalation, and student safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate behavior documentation and communication records.
- Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture.
- Support implementation of social-emotional learning and student leadership opportunities.
- Coordinate PBIS celebrations, assemblies, incentives, and recognition systems.
- Promote positive student relationships and student engagement throughout the school.
- Assist in maintaining orderly school operations and student accountability.
- Monitor attendance data and intervene in cases of chronic absenteeism or truancy concerns along with attendance officer(s).
- Communicate proactively with families regarding attendance, behavior, and student supports.
- Participate in parent meetings, conferences, and student support meetings.
- Build positive partnerships between school and home to support student success.
- Support teachers in the implementation of classroom management practices and behavioral interventions.
- Conduct classroom walkthroughs focused on school climate, student engagement, instructional environment, and behavior systems.
- Provide coaching and support to teachers related to student behavior, instructional practices, and classroom management.
- Assist the building principal with staff supervision responsibilities.
- Serve as a secondary and/or input evaluator for certified staff as assigned by the principal.
- Participate in instructional coaching, professional growth conversations, and feedback cycles.
- Assist with onboarding and mentoring of new staff regarding PBIS, MTSS, and school expectations.
- Support professional development related to behavior, SEL, PBIS, MTSS, and classroom management.
- Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, assemblies, transitions, and other non-instructional times.
- Assist with supervision of extracurricular and school activities as assigned.
- Support implementation of district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Assist with building operations and other duties assigned by the Principal.
- Master's degree in Educational Administration or related field preferred.
- Must possess or qualify for a Nebraska Administrative Certificate with principal endorsement or provisional administrative certification.
- Minimum of three years of successful educational experience preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in classroom management, PBIS, MTSS, instructional leadership, and restorative practices.
- Knowledge of Nebraska Rule 10 evaluation requirements preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
- Ability to move throughout the school building and grounds.
- Ability to supervise students in a variety of school settings.
- Ability to respond effectively in emergencies or crises.
- Ability to lift to 25 pounds occasionally.
