Controller

Symmetrio is recruiting a Controller for our customer, a growing medical technology manufacturer focused on developing and producing advanced healthcare systems that support cancer treatment and patient care.

The Controller will provide financial and accounting leadership across the organization, with responsibility for financial reporting, accounting operations, cost accounting, inventory, internal controls, and financial planning. This individual will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial information while partnering with operational and executive teams to improve financial visibility and business performance.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing accounting and cost management, with experience analyzing production costs, inventory, product margins, and operational variances. This person should be comfortable working across Accounting, Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Engineering, and Executive Leadership in a hands-on environment.

This is a full-time, onsite position in Littleton, MA , with a salary range of $145,000–$155,000 , depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, financial statements, and management reporting.
• Oversee financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and provide analysis of company performance against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
• Manage cost accounting activities across manufacturing operations, including standard costing, product costing, inventory valuation, and production cost analysis.
• Analyze manufacturing variances related to materials, labor, purchasing, production efficiency, and overhead, and communicate key cost drivers to leadership.
• Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Engineering to improve cost visibility, product margins, inventory performance, and operational efficiency.
• Oversee accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, service parts, and other inventory, including reserves and excess or obsolete inventory analysis.
• Support physical inventories, cycle counts, inventory reconciliations, and initiatives to improve inventory accuracy and transaction controls.
• Provide financial analysis for product profitability, cost reduction initiatives, capital investments, production improvements, and other operational decisions.
• Establish and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across financial reporting, inventory, cash, fixed assets, revenue, and accounting systems.
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and ongoing financial planning activities.
• Provide guidance on technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition, inventory, leases, fixed assets, capitalization, impairments, consolidation, and foreign currency.
• Support accounting and reporting for international entities, intercompany transactions, and other global finance activities, as applicable.
• Oversee fixed asset accounting and coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members while identifying opportunities to improve processes through automation, AI, and other technology.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; MBA preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including 2+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong experience with manufacturing and inventory accounting, including standard costing, product costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.
• Experience with U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Experience developing or improving accounting processes, policies, and internal controls.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across Finance, Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Engineering, and Executive Leadership.
• Experience with technical accounting matters such as revenue recognition, fixed assets, leases, capitalization, consolidation, or foreign currency is preferred.
• Medical device, medical technology, or other regulated manufacturing experience is highly preferred.
• Experience leading or mentoring accounting teams and using AI or other technology to improve financial processes is preferred.
