Office Assistant 2 Position at Wildwood Correctional Center

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Office Assistant 2 position at Wildwood Correctional Center (WCC) in Kenai, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

• This position provides comprehensive clerical support to all facility staff, including the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Administrative Officer II, Probation Officer, and Criminal Justice Technician.
• Responsibilities include maintaining strict security and confidentiality of personnel records; completing employee in-processing and out-processing; tracking vacancies; and monitoring WorkPlace Alaska daily to print, organize, and file all incoming applications.
• The position prepares required administrative reports such as weekly vacancy updates, weekly pass-ons, telephone and unit lists, and the Superintendent's end-of-month report.
• Additional duties include conducting background checks for contractors and visitors, managing the weekly UA process, and filing results in confidential prisoner files.
• This position also provides front desk coverage as needed, including answering phones, greeting the public, and processing incoming visitors and guests.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

You will be working at Wildwood Correctional Complex, located approximately three miles north of Kenai, in an office setting within a close-knit administrative team. This role provides essential support to daily facility operations and contributes to a collaborative, professional work environment.

Who We Are Looking For:

• Clerical: Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms.
• Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or the equivalent. AND One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs. Substitution: Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

PREA NOTIFICATION

The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:

• Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution;
• Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or
• Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.

If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS

Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
