Job Description and Duties Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent, the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the activities of a crew engaged in highway maintenance in a metropolitan area with high volume multi‑lane freeways. The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and be able to: Plan, organize, and direct the work of others. Operate and care for maintenance equipment. Prepare preliminary budget estimates and reports. Interpret simple blueprints and sketches. Keep records of employees’ time, materials, and equipment used. Detect unsafe conditions and practices. Plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate safety training programs. Provide emergency response outside of normal work hours. Special Requirements A valid and unrestricted Class C driver’s license is required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle. Qualifications Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the CALTRANS MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR exam. Candidates currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, reinstatement, list or LEAP eligibility, or pursuing list eligibility may be considered. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications stated in the classification specification, which include relevant education and experience.
