Accountant

Accountant PositionJoin our team at Bettendorf Community School District! We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Accountant to manage the district's financial operations, ensuring accurate accounting, regulatory compliance, and the effective use of resources to support student learning. This position is key to maintaining financial transparency and supporting administrative decision-making.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related fieldPrevious accounting experience (school, government, or nonprofit preferred)Strong knowledge of GAAP and school finance regulationsProficiency in accounting software, spreadsheets, and financial reporting systemsExcellent organizational, analytical, and communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with accuracyCommitment to ethical financial practices and confidentialityKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Maintain and monitor district financial accounts, including general ledger, revenues, expenditures, payroll, and grantsPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for administration, the school board, and external agenciesAssist with budget development, forecasting, and ongoing budget monitoringReconcile bank statements, accounts payable/receivable, and internal accountsEnsure compliance with state and federal reporting requirements and district policiesProcess invoices, purchase orders, and reimbursements while maintaining accurate recordsSupport annual audits and provide documentation to auditorsTrack and report on grants, special programs, and restricted fundsMaintain confidentiality and integrity in all financial mattersPerform other duties as assignedPreferred Qualifications:Experience with school district accounting systems (e.g., Vista, Infinite Visions, PowerSchool Finance, Skyward, or similar)Knowledge of state-specific school finance laws and reporting requirementsCPA, CMA, or equivalent credential (a plus but not required)It is the policy of the Bettendorf Community School District not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, creed, age (for employment), marital status (for programs), sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status (for programs) in its educational programs and its employment practices.
