Student Involvement Specialist
Reporting to the Director of Student Engagement as part of the Student Engagement team, the Student Involvement Specialist administers, oversees, and directs all program activities for student organizations and is the co-supervisor of the Campus Activities Board (CAB). The Student Involvement Specialist performs a wide range of complex duties and responsibilities in the management of student activities; exercises independent judgement; creates and manages processes and protocols for student organizations to promote learning, student engagement, community building, socially responsible leadership and diversity. The Student Involvement Specialist is also responsible for managing risk for student organization activities, advising, administering, and training student organizations and their advisors; and developing policies and procedures that support student organizations and the student leadership experience. Additionally, this position will play an integral role on the Student Engagement team, supporting and planning events, and promoting the departmental vision and mission while developing and contributing the departmental goals. The schedule for this position requires evening and weekend hours throughout the year due to the nature and timing of student-led events and activities. The position is expected to work primarily on-campus to meet student and operational needs but there is some flexibility to work some remote days as approved by supervisor.
Position Salary Range: $59,724/year - $80,436/year
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

The Bellevue College Office of Student Engagement is committed to enriching student life by providing engagement and leadership opportunities that empower students to find their passion, build community and grow to be better world citizens who contribute to a vibrant and diverse campus culture. Student Engagement advises student organizations and students seeking involvement with campus engagement opportunities and works with Associated Student Government in the process of Chartering Student Organizations. Student Engagement staff support and inspire purposeful involvement with a student development centered approach, and a commitment to foster student success academically, personally and professionally. We oversee The Watchdog student newspaper, manages Campus Activities Board, provides community involvement, training and leadership opportunities for students and carries out quarterly signature events like Welcome Week and BC Bulldog Days. Student Engagement attends to the proper usage of S&A funds and supports other collaborating departments by advising student organizations on the required timelines and policies related to different types of requests.
Administration
Develop and implement student organization training materials and workshops for student leaders, involved students and student organization advisors throughout the academic year.
Oversee Student Engagement efforts to follow best practices with regard to Chartered Student Organizations and policies that outline the chartering and management of student organizations.
Prepare budget requests, provide advice and information related to financial status and problem areas to higher-level administrative staff; create yearly CAB and other student engagement budgets for submission to the Service and Activities (S&A) Committee.
Consult regularly with Budget Manager to confirm balances of Charted Student Orgs and Campus Activity Board budgets to assist student workers and club officers in learning quarterly budget management and expense tracking.
Review submitted Chartered Student Organizations Project Proposals and follow up quickly on additional needs and/or project approvals.
Set and monitor requirements for student organizations, and keep records of organizations' constitutions, chartering and events to ensure compliance and continuity.
Create, review, communicate and enforce student organization protocols and guidelines.
Support students in process of submitting Charters and review each charter for proper completion before determining if it is eligible to be progressed to Associated Student Government for review.
Ensure student organization information (officers, advisors, training completion rates, activities, fundraising, etc.) is tracked, accurate and up to date.
Oversee and work with professional staff and Director of Student Engagement, ensure student organization online forms, web pages, training tools, and flyers/posters are up to date and utilized
Develop, implement, monitor, and analyze CAB and student organization data reporting systems; analyze CAB work; prepare and present reports to track student involvement.
With the Director of Student Engagement, conduct analysis of involvement data and interpret that data to develop or adjust strategic initiatives to support student organizations.
Commit to learning and help in building the new co-curricular CRM (Involve by Modern Campus) or other system being implemented in Student Engagement
Regularly review charters, requests and other submissions in the Involve system and assist students in learning system and navigating how to submit requests
Assist with identifying and addressing risk management issues for student organizations; ensure the waivers are completed and administered correctly.
Provide oversight of fundraisers for student organizations to include proper protocols required from the Department of Health (food handling protocols and permits) and finance protocols (documentation, cash handling, startup fund use and reconciling after the event.)
Prepare comprehensive plans, summaries, recommendations, progress or special reports as directed.
Supervision/Mentoring/Advising
Supervise and mentor Chartered Student Organizations and co-advise Campus Activity Board students in the planning, promotion, implementation of all campus events to include occasional evenings and weekends.
Develop and implement ongoing training and professional development for Chartered Student Organizations.
Serve as the administrator for CAB social media platforms; co-advise CAB students on social media practice and etiquette.
Advise, mentor and support student leaders on an individual and group basis. Work with students to set short and long-term goals.
Advise and communicate with student organization leaders and advisors of student organizations on a variety of topics such as programming, budget management, fundraising and recruitment.
Advise student organization leaders and student organization advisors and consult with the college's Risk Committee to ensure that all approved activities are well-planned, meet College policies and guidelines and avoid undue risk.
Advise student organization(s) as requested and approved by Director of Student Engagement.
Event Planning/Management
Meet with Student Engagement Team and other campus partners to develop regular programming as approved within budget(s) and as approved by Director.
As part of the Student Engagement team, plan, manage and assess departmental events and initiatives.
Serve as the lead staff member on planning and evaluation of key Student Engagement signature events.
Support other staff on projects and events when not the lead staff member.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis
At least two (2) years of experience in advising students and organizations.
At least one (1) year experience working as a member of an event planning/event management team and collaborating with others at varying levels.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, computer spreadsheet, word processing, and database (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher).
Self-motivated, ability to work independently, and an ability to work well in a team and demonstrate initiative and cooperation with others.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex situations with an ability to effectively manage deadlines.
