Salary/Pay Rate: $46,970 - $62,495 (Annual wage per contract: CFA Contract ) Posted: 13 days ago Application Deadline: 08/18/2026, 11:59 PM Tentative Start Date: 09/02/2026 Job Description: Job Title: School Social Worker (IEP & Crisis Intervention Specialist) Department: Student Support Services Reports To: Principal/Director of Student Support Services Job Type: Full-time, 10-month (School Year), Summer Days ( If needed, up to 20) Salary: Commensurate with experience and district salary schedule Summary The School Social Worker plays a critical role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students, with a primary focus on providing counseling services for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and responding to students in crisis situations. This position involves working collaboratively with students, families, school staff, and community resources to identify needs, develop supportive plans, and advocate for student success. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, skilled professional who can navigate complex student needs and respond effectively in high-pressure situations. Key Responsibilities IEP Counseling & Support: Provide direct individual and group counseling services to students with IEPs, focusing on social-emotional goals, coping strategies, self-advocacy, and problem-solving skills. Actively participate in IEP meetings, providing insights on student social-emotional development and progress, and contributing to the development of appropriate goals and services. Monitor and document student progress on IEP social-emotional goals, providing regular reports to the IEP team and parents. Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, and related service providers to ensure integrated support for students with IEPs. Crisis Intervention & Response: Serve as a member of the the primary response team to students experiencing social-emotional crises, including but not limited to, mental health emergencies, suicidal ideation, grief, trauma, and significant behavioral challenges. Conduct immediate risk assessments and safety plans for students in crisis, ensuring student well-being and connecting with appropriate internal and external support systems. Provide short-term, solution-focused counseling and support to students and families during and after crisis situations. Facilitate communication and coordination with parents/guardians, school administration, and emergency services as needed during crisis events. Research, identify, and refer students and families to appropriate community resources, including mental health services, basic needs support, housing assistance, and other relevant agencies. Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community providers to ensure comprehensive support for students. Collaborate effectively with school administration, teachers, counselors, nurses, and other support staff to create a positive and supportive school environment. General Duties Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with district policies and legal requirements. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in school social work, IEP services, and crisis intervention. Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards set forth by relevant social work organizations and district policies. Contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture that supports the well-being of all students. Qualifications Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program. [State-specific licensure/certification as a School Social Worker, e.g., LCSW, LMSW, Pupil Personnel Services Credential with School Social Work Authorization]. Proven experience in providing counseling services to children and adolescents, preferably within a school setting. Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. Strong understanding of federal and state special education laws and regulations, particularly regarding IEPs and related services. Knowledge of child and adolescent development, mental health diagnoses, and evidence-based interventions. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, families, and staff. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for documentation and record-keeping.
