Job Description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs a wide range of general labor and maintenance activities to keep the facility clean, safe, and well-maintained. This role focuses on routine cleaning, grounds maintenance, recycling and waste management, and general facilities upkeep during the overnight shift.

Responsibilities

• Perform general labor work orders requested by internal customers, including responding to questions, completing cleaning tasks, and moving furniture, ensuring timely and professional service.
• Move furniture and coordinate office furniture moves, supporting department relocations and workspace changes in an organized and safe manner.
• Inspect and clean facilities and grounds, including both interior and exterior areas such as parking lots and common spaces, to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
• Sweep and clean designated areas on a regular schedule, following established cleaning procedures and standards.
• Maintain supplies in the supply room by monitoring inventory levels, organizing materials, and restocking as needed to support ongoing facility operations.
• Perform limited preventative maintenance tasks as assigned, helping to identify and address minor issues before they become larger problems.
• Collect waste from designated areas and dispose of it appropriately, following established procedures for handling and segregating waste.
• Handle recyclable materials properly as part of the facility’s recycling and waste disposal program, ensuring compliance with recycling guidelines.
• Perform lawn upkeep services, including mowing, weeding, and basic grounds care, to maintain a neat and presentable exterior appearance.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing facilities maintenance or general labor duties in a commercial, industrial, or similar environment.
• Ability to complete routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, trash removal, and general custodial work, according to established schedules.
• Capability to move and rearrange furniture safely, including lifting, carrying, and positioning items as required.
• Basic understanding of grounds maintenance practices, such as lawn mowing and weeding.
• Ability to follow work orders and instructions from internal customers and supervisors with attention to detail.
• Reliability to work an overnight schedule from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
• Ability to handle waste and recyclable materials safely and in accordance with established procedures.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain supply rooms and keep work areas orderly.
• Physical ability to perform manual labor, including standing, walking, lifting, and working both indoors and outdoors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in facilities maintenance, custodial, janitorial, or groundskeeping roles.
• Familiarity with basic preventative maintenance tasks in a facility environment.
• Comfort working independently with minimal supervision during overnight hours.
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal customers and team members to understand and complete work requests.
• Willingness to support recycling and sustainability initiatives within the facility.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site in a facility environment and follows an overnight schedule from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. You will work both indoors and outdoors, performing tasks in areas such as offices, common spaces, supply rooms, parking lots, and landscaped grounds. The position involves regular physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, moving furniture, sweeping, and operating basic grounds maintenance equipment such as lawn mowers and related tools. You will work with cleaning supplies, waste containers, and recycling bins, following established safety and handling procedures. Attire should be practical and suitable for manual labor and working in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.

This is a Contract position based out of Lockport, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
