Job Description

The CDL Driver Onboarding Specialist is responsible for ensuring newly hired CDL drivers are fully qualified, compliant, documented, and ready to work before being placed on assignment. This position serves as the final checkpoint between recruiting and placement by reviewing driver documentation, verifying qualifications, coordinating pre-employment requirements, and maintaining timely communication with drivers. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple drivers through various stages of the onboarding process.

Responsibilities:

• Manage CDL drivers through the onboarding process, including collecting and reviewing documentation, identifying missing requirements, and confirming drivers are cleared and Ready to Work. 
• Verify CDL classifications, endorsements, driving experience, MVRs, medical certifications, drug and alcohol testing, background screening, and other applicable DOT/FMCSA, client, and company requirements. 
• Maintain accurate and confidential driver records, enter onboarding information into company systems, and track expiration dates for licenses, medical certificates, endorsements, and other credentials. 
• Communicate driver status and onboarding requirements with recruiters, dispatchers, account managers, operations, management, and clients to minimize delays in placement. 
• Complete final onboarding reviews and provide cleared drivers with assignment details, reporting instructions, orientation information, and other required next steps. 

Qualifications and Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. 
• Previous experience in staffing, recruiting, onboarding, transportation, logistics, trucking, or compliance preferred. 
• Knowledge of CDL driver qualifications and DOT/FMCSA requirements preferred. 
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify missing or inconsistent documentation. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong follow-up, organization, and sense of urgency. 
• Comfortable using applicant tracking systems, onboarding platforms, Microsoft Office, email, and other computer systems. 
• Ability to manage multiple candidates, deadlines, and onboarding requirements simultaneously. 
• Ability to handle confidential driver and employment information appropriately.

The base pay range for this position is $16.00-$18.00 per hour, excluding benefits, bonuses, or other compensation. Your final compensation will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future growth.
