Requirements Valid New Jersey Teacher of Handicapped and/or Students with Disabilities certificate. Demonstrated knowledge in certificated area and effective teaching methods. Thorough knowledge of Industry Standards/New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Thorough knowledge and familiarity with instructional technologies. Ability to maintain a safe, secure and caring learning environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate with parents/guardians. Successfully undergo a criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. Meets the health qualifications required of all personnel. Meets NJ residency requirements or willingness to relocate to NJ within 365 days of employment. REPORTS TO: Supervisor assigned per the CCTS’ Organizational Chart Responsibilities Participate in the evaluation, classification, and placement of all students with disabilities. Administer, score, and evaluate standard achievement tests for the purpose of assessing the educational needs of those students referred. Interpret the results of achievement testing and assist in the development and implementation of an appropriate IEP for each student requiring special education and/or related services. Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the educational progress of classified students. Serve as a case manager as assigned and maintain appropriate case records. Interact in a consultant capacity with instructional staff, administrators, parents, pupils, fellow CST members, guidance counselors, speech and language specialists and health services staff, as needed. Maintain professional competence through continuing education and other professional growth activities. Perform all duties required as a member of the child study team by administrative code, state and federal laws, and board policy. Works to achieve common core state standards and district educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning in the classroom using Board-adopted curriculum and other appropriate learning activities. Demonstrates a knowledge, understanding, and application of subject matter and its implementation within the framework of current evaluation model. Develops and submits lesson plans which adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student through use of individual and small group instruction, appropriate modifications and accommodations, and other needed supports. Sets specific objectives wherever possible in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans and carries through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives. Prepares, maintains, reviews, and utilizes a variety of data to document and monitor student progress (including IEPs as needed) to improve student performance. Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources in order to improve quality of instruction and student performance, being mindful of student needs and interests. Budgets class time effectively. Communicates with parents through conferences, and other means, to inform them about the school program and to discussstudent’s progress. Devises assignments and assessments that require higher level thinking (Bloom’s Taxonomy.) Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned. Continuously uses professional development activities to remain current, grow professionally, and cultivate competency in emerging trends, research, and techniques. Participates in IEP, CST, school-level planning and faculty meetings/committees, and other school system groups. Develops, establishes, and reinforces rules for procedures and classroom behavior management, in correlation with school, district, and Board policies, in order to promote a positive and safe learning environment, conducive to promoting student achievement. Collaborates, completes, and implements teacher specific sections of the IEP that includes: Goals and Objectives, Modification and Accommodations, Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP), etc. Maintains a high standard of ethical professional conductwhen dealing with associates, parents, students, and other members of the community. Demonstrates proficient technology skills and software usage relating to IEPs, lesson delivery, and accessing student information. Directs the classroom aides, when appropriate, by effectively utilizing them to meet the students’ needs. Provides information in the development of student IEPs, progress reports, etc., by working closely with CST to ensure compliance with New Jersey Administrative Code. Performs other duties, as assigned by the Director of Special Services and/or Building Principal, which shall fall within the scope of his/her employment and certification per the CCTS’ Organizational Chart or designee.
