Stephens County Hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission, the nation’s premier healthcare monitoring agency Radiology Manager - Full Time The Radiology Manager is responsible for the overall operation and management of the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, CT, Ultrasound, Mammography and Echocardiography areas which provides services to patients. Education/Experience Graduate of a recognized radiology technology program. Two years’ experience in a management or supervisory position in Radiology. Licensure / Certification Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist required. Registration in Ultrasound, CT and/or Mammography preferred. Provides care to patients of the following ages: Infants (Newborn to One Year) Adolescent (Ten to 18 Years) Toddlers (Two to Four Years) Adult (19 to 69 Years) Child (Five to Nine Years) Geriatric (70 and above) Duties and Responsibilities Goals and objectives are consistent with hospital mission and interdepartmental objectives. Identifies specific outcomes and target dates. Reviews goals monthly and addresses in monthly report. Develops an operating budget and capital expenditure plan. Consistent with goals and objectives. Reviews financial results monthly; compares to budget and takes corrective actions regarding unfavorable variances. Maintains appropriate levels of supplies/inventory. Selects equipment consistent with goals/budget. Processes departmental payroll accurately and timely. If applicable insures that departmental charges are input accurately and timely. Establishes policies, procedures, various records and contracts. Administrative Infection Control Safety Interdepartmental Department‑Specific Employees are well informed. Assures adherence. Reviews and revises at least annually or as needed. Delegates and coordinates departmental workflow for optimum efficiency. Shares control with employees and others as related to the outcome of services provided by the department. Seeks to constantly improve processes resulting in increased effectiveness and efficiency. Develops job descriptions and measurable performance standards; reviews and revises as needed. Leads by example. Encourages each employee to be quality conscious. Maintains a quality improvement log to show improvements. Crosses disciplinary lines to achieve functional quality improvement. Fosters openness and exchange of ideas for improvement. Advertises successes and builds on them for improvement. Finds an improvement opportunity. Organizes a multidisciplinary team who is familiar with the problem. Clarifies current knowledge about the process. Uncovers the root causes. Starts the PDCA cycle. Plans for correction/intervention. Does or implements the intervention. Checks the results of the intervention. Acts on the results with acceptance, rejection or modification. Proactively shares information with employees regarding mission, values goals, progress, trends, experiments, successes and failures. Proactively shares with administration information that could affect employees’ morale, motivation and ability to contribute to the organization. Provides input at Department Manager meetings and other committee meetings as assigned. Recruits, interviews, selects, hires and orients employees to fill vacancies in the department. Facilitates the hiring process by thorough, accurate and timely submission of paperwork. Monitors staffing levels and recommends adjustments to assure that customer’s needs are met. Verifies staff registries are up to date and qualifications are met with continuing education. Runs efficient meetings which do not waste time. Manages group dynamics to encourage participation by all and use of all talents. Is able to reach consensus. Recognizes and rewards team cooperation, efforts and results. Acts proactively rather than reactively as evidenced by taking the initiative to solve problems before they become major crises. Responds to suggestions of others with optimism and an eye to visionary possibilities rather than with pessimism and negativity. Consistently treats employees as a customer rather than a resource which is expendable as evidenced by low turnover. Displays a high motivation to work with all employees to achieve the goals of the department and hospital. Strives to coach employees rather than reprimand. Encourages and provides for employee education/training opportunities which will have a direct effect on employee performance. Accurately and realistically evaluates employees based on job descriptions and performance standards. Submits evaluations to Human Resources on or before annual review date or end of probationary period. Verifies education and needs for improvement as per modality. Accepts and supports change. Volunteers to accept additional duties. Works positively with others. Supports manager/supervisor. Acts to promote harmonious work relationships and contributes to effective teamwork in the department and hospital. Completes assignments and routine job functions on time without reminders (to include annual health update, etc.). Voluntarily assists others, or takes initiative to assist with department workload once own duties are completed. Searches for ways to improve service delivery of his/her department and makes the ideas known to administration. Volunteers regularly for CQI teams. Accepts and supports changes. Accepts change in assignments without disruption in work/department. Willing to alter, if possible, job procedures to accommodate the needs of others. Willing to change scheduled work time as needed. Maintains standards. Measures results periodically. Takes corrective actions when actual results are less than established standards. Oversees accreditation process per modality and verifies standards are met Hospital information is kept strictly confidential and divulged only on an “as needed” basis. Is aware of different levels of publicity and adheres to same. Participates and cooperates in the hospital safety program. Adheres to hospital safety policies as directed by the Safety Manual. Uses universal precautions and applies safe work practices during the performance of the job. Participates appropriately during emergency preparedness drills. Able to complete departmental safety surveys when requested. Is familiar with the Hazard Communication program within the department. Recognizes safety hazards and takes corrective action. Attends Safety/IC inservices as required by job description. Develops and monitors standards of safety for department (managers only). Submits Fire Drill Reports. Completes Incident Investigations thoroughly and timely (managers only). Insures department is in compliance with regulatory agencies and state health department. Insures employees follow safety procedures (radiation badges), monitors and prepares required reports of radiation exposure. Corresponds with state and national public health departments regarding infractions of equipment and determination of correction of infraction. Adheres to prescribed standards for Radiation Safety. Sets up P.M. frequency in accordance with The Joint Commission, State and Federal guidelines. Monitors for compliance. Determines equipment replacement through review of equipment history and technology standards. Develops and implements departmental plan for employee development. Maintains technical expertise, coordinates and participates in formal and continuing education programs of the department, instructs and demonstrates specific techniques, initiation of new procedures and use of equipment. Negotiates contracts for competitive bids. Monitors quality of service being performed. Insures for timely completion Coordinates and plans for major projects or for expansion of Radiology Services. Oversees program to provide for an organized atmosphere and pleasant appearance to the physical plan especially in those areas accessible to patients. Performs cost analysis of examinations, for equipment and any new modality. Assigns personnel to each Diagnostic area. Monitors work areas for timely workflow. Communicates work status to necessary personnel. Performs daily Radiology procedures as needed in any department. Evaluates and documents signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Assesses mobility and cooperation for optimal positioning during exam. Involves parents in the administration of care and to provide protective environment. Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film. Provides assurance to parents and explains what they need to do after the examination is complete. AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Infant (Newborn to One Year) Provides protective environment; does not leave unattended. Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Assesses mobility and cooperation for optimal positioning during exam. Involves patents in the administration of care and to provide protective environment. Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film. Provides assurance to parents and explains what they need to do after the examination is complete. Toddlers (Two to Four Years) Provides protective environment; does not leave unattended. Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Assesses mobility and cooperation of toddler for examination needed. Involves parents in the examination as well as mobility of patient. Stresses to patents the importance of mobility to decrease the need for repeat exams. Explains what will happen during exam. Provides comfort to patient to assure cooperation. Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film. Explains to parent what needs to be done after examination. Child (five to Nine Years) Assesses patient’s comprehension of what needs to be done and cooperation level. Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Involves parents in care when necessary. Recognizes child’s need to exercise some control. Provides for privacy. Assesses for non-verbal needs for support. Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film. Keeps explanations short, simple and logical using correct terminology Adolescent (12 to 18 Years) Assesses patient’s comprehension level to evaluate cooperation and mobility. Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Involves patient verbally and physically with positioning to ensure adequate exam. Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film. Explains to parents and patients what needs to be done following the procedure. Provides for privacy. Adult (19 to 69 Years) Evaluates self-care abilities/limitations and identifies need for additional safety measures. Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Involves patient verbally and physically with positioning to ensure adequate exam. Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film. Explains to patient what needs to be done following procedure. Provides for privacy. Allows patient to refuse exam when requested. Geriatric (70 Years and Older) Evaluates self-care abilities/limitations and identifies need for additional safety measures. Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Involves patient verbally and physically with positioning to ensure adequate exam. Explains to patient and/or family member what needs to be done following procedure. Evaluates x-rays to ensure what is needed for diagnosis is on film. Provides for privacy. Evaluates level of anxiety and cooperation of patient. Allows patient to refuse exam when requested.
