Radiologic Technologist The role provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. Demonstrates skills and knowledge in use of all x‑ray equipment and performance of all x‑ray protocols and procedures. Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing high quality exams within the appropriate length of time for procedure. It is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities. Responsibilities Demonstrates a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS and reviews scans with radiologists as needed. Confirms patient identity, body part, and body side for every patient prior to the procedure. Administers sound patient care practices per department and hospital policies to ensure patient safety. Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent and assists the physician in optimizing exam performance and interpretation. Explains procedures to patients/families, answers questions to ease anxiety and assure cooperation. Recognizes clinical or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action. Responds and follows up on critical test findings. Acquires and evaluates patient lab values to ensure they are within normal limits (BUN, CR, pregnancy, glucose) when applicable. Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas neat and safe, checking and inspecting suite, equipment, and accessories daily; troubleshoots malfunctions and reports dangerous conditions. Checks stock supply levels, maintains supplies at par level, cleans and disinfects equipment, and maintains linen supply in the room. Participates in department QC and PI programs and follows up on all deficiencies. Maintains proper sterile technique for procedures, practices aseptic techniques, washes hands before and after each patient contact, strictly adheres to body substance isolation policy. Wears film badge while on duty and follows departmental badge protocol. Records required information accurately and legibly on requisitions, performs routine clerical duties as assigned, inputs and verifies all data in PACS/RADIANT. Licenses & Certifications Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) – American Heart Association. Radiology Technician (ARRT) – Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (LSRTBE). Education & Experience Preferred: Appropriate clinical training in a Radiologic Technologist program and healthcare experience as a radiology technologist. Reporting Relationships Does this position formally supervise employees? No. Functional Demands Medium physical requirements: Exerts 20‑50 lbs force occasionally, 10‑25 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs constantly to move objects. Sitting: occasional (0‑35% of day); Standing and walking: frequent (36‑66% of day); Climbing: occasional (0‑35%); Lifting, Carrying, Push/pull, Twisting, Bending, Reaching: frequent; etc. Shift and Hours Variable Hours (United States of America).
