Salary

• Substitute Teacher: $200.58 Daily substitute teacher pay rate
  • $251.58 Long Term Pay rate working 7+ consecutive days in the same assignment

• Substitute SEA and Substitute Secretary: Rate based on last Grade and Step at retirement

MMSD is seeking highly motivated and energetic applicants for openings for the 2026-2027 school year. Applicants should have a good attitude, ability to create a welcoming environment, a willingness to learn, and passion for impactful work and learning.

• Provide your most recent MMSD supervisor as a reference

• You must have at least a 75 days break in service since your retirement date with MMSD.

• If you are returning within 90 days of your last day worked with MMSD you may be able to waive the onboarding process.

Job Duties .

These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other responsibilities may be required and assigned.

Substitute Teacher

• Provide instruction to students

• Provide classroom management

Substitute SEA

• Instruction and support to students in integrated school and community settings;

• Provide assistance to the teaching staff.

• Lunch and Hallway support

Substitute Secretary

• Provide Front Desk Customer Assistance

• Support staff and family with verbal and written communication

• Support the coordination Substitute staff

Minimum Qualifications

• Substitute Teacher and SEA’s must hold an Active license with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI):

Teacher unit license or Substitute Teaching license.

Special Education Program Aide License

An active license is required to order to pick up assignments

• Substitute SEA’s must hold at least 48 credits post high school or have completed the MTA
• Retired from MMSD

Position Competencies

• High Expectations For Every Student: Ability to demonstrate, through actions and words, that every student can achieve high standards. Hold a commitment to excellence and equity for all students.

• Quality Instructional Practice: Ability to follow verbal and written lesson plans and/or directions, create lesson plans when needed, and support student growth in the mastery of content. Ability to build connections and relationships with adults and youth. Ability to provide necessary support (scaffolds, interventions, etc.) to meet a range of learning needs and support an inclusive learning environment.

• Cultural Competence: Ability to understand and articulate the systems and beliefs that may lead to inequitable outcomes for learners of color as well as adapt instruction to meet the needs of each student. Ability to make links between content and student experiences, perspectives, and personal goals.

• Data Proficiency: Ability to use provided tools and resources (computer, smartboard, software applications, ect.) Ability to use data beyond standardized assessments to diagnose student learning needs and differentiate instruction in the classroom.

• Team Collaboration: Ability to collaborate with peers to reflect on student achievement and teacher practice data to continuously plan and improve instruction.

• Student & Family Engagement: Ability to initiate and build relationships with students. Ability to understand unique family characteristics and find ways to engage families as full partners in their children's education. Experience working with children and youth (ages 4 years - 19 years)

• Resilience & Results Orientation:Ability to be on time, dependable and able to adapt to change. Ability to find challenges exciting and persist in the face of challenges.

• Self-Awareness & Growth Mindset: Ability to reflect on strengths and growth areas regularly as well as seek mentors to improve.
