Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Medical Director for a locum tenens opportunity in Sunnyside, Washington .

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on Emergency Medicine with meaningful clinical leadership in a Critical Access Hospital serving communities throughout southeastern Washington. The Emergency Department sees approximately 18,000 patients annually , maintains a low-acuity patient profile with a 5% admission rate , and operates on straightforward 12-hour physician shifts.

The incoming Medical Director will remain clinically active while partnering with hospital leadership and the Emergency Department team to support quality, physician engagement, operational excellence, and continued departmental growth .

Practice Environment

This is a community-focused Emergency Department offering an attractive combination of clinical breadth and manageable acuity.

Physicians should be comfortable independently managing the broad range of presentations and procedures encountered in a Critical Access Emergency Department.

Schedule

• 12-hour physician shifts
• 12 shifts per month

This structure provides a defined monthly clinical commitment while allowing the Medical Director to establish continuity with the department, physicians, and hospital leadership.

Medical Director Leadership

The Medical Director will provide clinical leadership while maintaining an active Emergency Medicine practice.

Responsibilities include:

• Partnering with hospital and clinical leadership
• Supporting high-quality Emergency Department care
• Promoting physician engagement and collaboration
• Supporting operational excellence
• Contributing to departmental growth and innovation
• Providing clinical leadership within the Emergency Department
• Maintaining an active Emergency Medicine presence

Clinical Scope

• Broad-spectrum Emergency Medicine
• Independent evaluation and management of ED patients
• Acute medical and emergency presentations
• Stabilization and treatment
• Emergency procedures within physician competency
• Diagnostic evaluation and clinical decision-making
• Patient disposition and transfer coordination when appropriate
• Allscripts Paragon documentation

Physician Qualifications

Physicians must have completed an ACGME- or AOA-accredited residency in the specialty in which they practice , including:

• Emergency Medicine
• Family Medicine
• Internal Medicine

Additional requirements:

• Board certification in EM, FM, or IM through an ABMS or AOA-recognized board*
• Prior Emergency Department experience required
• Active Emergency Department practice within the previous 12 months, or qualifying recent hospital-affiliated postgraduate training
• Active, unrestricted Washington medical license
• Appropriate Washington DEA registration
• Medical leadership experience preferred

Certifications

For Emergency Medicine Board Certified physicians , additional life-support certifications are not required under the stated credentialing criteria.

For Family Medicine and Internal Medicine physicians :

• ACLS
• ATLS
• PALS
