Heavy Equipment Mechanic, CDL (OGM 3rd Shift)

Overview The Heavy Equipment Mechanic performs a variety of repairs and services to maintain heavy equipment. The role requires understanding intermediate heavy equipment maintenance, operating and inspecting machinery, dismantling and reassembling equipment, and ensuring operational efficiency in accordance with technical manuals and Army regulations. Responsibilities Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects. Dismantle and reassemble equipment using technical manuals, lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear with micrometers and gauges. Replace defective engines, subassemblies such as transmissions, and test overhauled equipment. Weld broken parts and structural members. Perform all work in accordance with the applicable Technical Manual for the vehicle and work assigned. Direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, as needed. Recommend revisions to internal maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship within Army regulations. Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and environmental policies. Complete necessary paperwork associated with vehicle maintenance and repairs. Write routine reports and correspondence as required. Minimum Qualifications US citizenship required to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. High school diploma or equivalent. Five or more years of recent experience in heavy machinery maintenance, including at least 3 years in the field consistent with contract requirements. Knowledge of engine operations, accessories, and components. Ability to obtain and hold required forklift and other site licenses/certifications. Valid and current state driver’s license and Class A CDL required during employment; may be obtained within 90 days of start if not current. Must be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle and a diverse range of vehicles. Proficiency in basic computer skills. Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical manual instructions, service bulletins, wiring/schematic diagrams, and specifications. Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., work at heights, climb in and out of vehicles, and perform prolonged periods of stooping, standing, and sitting. Must be able to pass medical examination requirements related to daily tasks or required licenses/certifications. Preferred Qualifications Maintenance and repair of military tactical vehicles, lawn mowers, ATVs, side‑by‑side vehicles, HMMWV, LMTV, FMTV, medium wheeled trailers, HEMMIT, HET, heavy wheeled trailer, forklift, M88, M113, construction equipment, and emergency vehicles. A.S.E. and/or Diesel Mechanic certifications. Experience in field repairs and recovery. Work Environment & Physical Demands Work may involve a 90‑day transition period to obtain CDL A if not currently held. May require shift work, nights, weekends, and holidays. Exposure to extreme temperatures, high humidity, rain, and blowing dust. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required. Suitability for working under pressure and meeting short suspense dates. Compensation US: $32.60 per hour. Compensation is a good‑faith estimate of the intended hourly rate for this position at the time of posting.
