Senior Database Reliability Engineer

Salary: $161,000 - 184,000 per year Requirements:

• We bring deep PostgreSQL expertise, including fluency with EXPLAIN (ANALYZE, BUFFERS), and a strong understanding of MVCC, bloat, lock contention, and vacuum behavior
• We have production experience with an ORM such as Django, SQLAlchemy, or ActiveRecord, including anticipating generated SQL and identifying N+1 query patterns
• We have operated CDC pipelines in production, ideally with AWS DMS, and are comfortable with logical replication, slot hygiene, schema evolution, and Parquet-based data lakes feeding Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift
• We have hands-on experience with pganalyze or similar database monitoring tools, CloudWatch, and Honeycomb or another high-cardinality tracing platform, with familiarity in OpenTelemetry
• We have worked with OpenSearch, Redis, and at least one production message broker such as SQS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka at scale
• We can write automation in Python, Go, or a similar language, and manage infrastructure with Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code tools
• We use AI coding and review tools collaboratively, including maintaining AGENTS.md files, configuring review agents, and iterating on prompts
• Nice-to-have experience includes event sourcing on Postgres or alternate CDC tools such as Debezium, Fivetran, or Airbyte, along with pgbouncer or RDS Proxy at scale, advanced Honeycomb usage, producer-side Snowflake work, scaling data systems during rapid team growth, or compliance programs such as SOC 2 Type II or GDPR

• We own database reliability across Aurora, OpenSearch, Redis, and our CDC pipeline, including schema reviews, migration safety, and incident response for the data tier
• We strengthen Django ORM usage at scale by identifying N+1 patterns, extending QuerySet and schema standards, and creating CI checks and documentation that codify best practices
• We operate and improve the CDC pipeline from Aurora through DMS to S3 Parquet and Snowflake, ensuring replication health and migration safety for downstream consumers
• We build and refine observability across pganalyze, CloudWatch, and Honeycomb, adding Django-side instrumentation that ties slow queries to users, flags, and deploys
• We drive multi-AZ resilience within a single-region architecture, including failover behavior, RTO/RPO planning, and AZ topology for ElastiCache, OpenSearch, and RabbitMQ
• We develop self-service tooling and dashboards that give product and platform teams visibility into their query usage and reduce review overhead as the engineering organization grows
• We support onboarding and knowledge sharing by writing documentation, leading internal sessions on ORM behavior, and feeding insights into AI review tooling
