Library Reference Technician (Youth Services) (WAR/Part-Time)

Overview Responsible for providing technical and reference assistance to children, teens, parents, teachers, and other library patrons. May assist in planning and presenting Youth Services programs for infants, toddlers, pre‑school, school‑aged, and teen library patrons. Responsibilities Provide customer service at the youth services desk. Offer technical, reference, and reader’s advisory assistance in person or over the phone. Assist in preparation for story times, displays, crafts, and other library programs. Promote programs and assist patrons with program registration. Assist in scheduling, planning, and presenting youth services programs for all age groups. Assist in collection maintenance, including shelf reading, shifting, and moving books and other materials. Prepare reading lists, bibliographies, flyers, and other promotional materials. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Experience working with children in libraries, schools, or daycares. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to plan, organize, and present library programs and projects. Ability to learn and operate library automated systems. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Must be able to work a continual floating schedule, including evenings and weekends. Additional Requirements Successful completion of pre‑employment background checks. General knowledge of children’s and teen’s literature. General knowledge of personal computer skills and MS Office. Ability to interact with children, teens, and parents in a pleasant manner. Physical Demands Must be physically able to operate office equipment such as computers and copiers. May lift boxes of up to 50 pounds occasionally, and push and pull library carts frequently.
