Job Overview

Sigma, Inc. is seeking an experienced Cook to join a healthcare/institutional setting in Tewksbury, MA. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in nutrition-based meal preparation, menu planning, and high-volume food service environments.

You will play a key role in preparing healthy, well-balanced meals while ensuring compliance with USDA guidelines, food safety standards, and sanitation regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and/or follow weekly menus aligned with USDA nutritional requirements
• Prepare nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks on schedule
• Ensure food quality, taste, and proper temperature before serving
• Transport and inspect food to maintain quality and portion standards
• Prepare meals for special events and holidays
• Minimize food waste through proper planning and execution
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and sanitation standards (Board of Health guidelines)
• Handle kitchen opening/closing procedures and proper food storage
• Order, manage, and maintain kitchen inventory and supplies
• Build and maintain relationships with food vendors/suppliers
• Participate in supervision meetings and team collaboration

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 3+ years of cooking experience (institutional, healthcare, or high-volume kitchen preferred)
• Experience with menu planning and nutrition standards
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen operations
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

• ServSafe Certification and/or Allergy Awareness Certification
• Valid Driver's License (preferred)
• Experience working in healthcare, rehabilitation, or substance abuse treatment settings
• Ability to work with diverse populations in a respectful and sensitive manner

Schedule Details

• Orientation (First 2 Weeks): MondayFriday (Day Shift starting 6:30 AM)
• Post-Training Schedule Options:
  • Option 1: SundayThursday (40 hours/week, 10:00 AM 6:30 PM)
  • Option 2: FridayMonday (32 hours/week, mix of 6:30 AM 3:00 PM & 10:00 AM 6:30 PM)
