The Dishwasher

The Dishwasher is an essential member of MIKA's Back of House team. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen by efficiently washing dishes, cookware, utensils, glassware, and kitchen equipment. The Dishwasher supports the entire culinary team by ensuring clean equipment and serviceware are consistently available throughout service.

The ideal candidate is reliable, hardworking, organized, team-oriented, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation.

Essential Responsibilities

• Wash and sanitize dishes, plates, silverware, glassware, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
• Operate the commercial dishwasher and follow proper washing and sanitizing procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized dish area throughout the shift.
• Properly sort, rack, wash, dry, and store dishes and equipment.
• Assist the kitchen team with maintaining adequate supplies of clean plates, utensils, cookware, and other equipment.
• Keep floors, walls, sinks, drains, trash areas, and dishwashing areas clean and sanitary.
• Empty trash and recycling and maintain proper waste disposal procedures.
• Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment according to MIKA standards.
• Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing deliveries when needed.
• Support kitchen staff with basic cleaning and preparation tasks as directed.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, chemical handling, and workplace safety procedures.
• Report broken or damaged equipment, dishes, glassware, or unsafe conditions to management.
• Assist other Back of House team members whenever necessary.
• Complete opening, closing, and side-work duties as assigned.
• Maintain a professional, respectful, and positive attitude toward guests and team members.

Qualifications

• Previous restaurant or dishwasher experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Strong work ethic and reliability.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the shift.
• Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation is preferred.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as required.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding work.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry approximately 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and lift throughout the shift.
• Ability to work in a hot, wet, and fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals and equipment.
