Director of Finance & Accounting

An established, Chicago-based independent investment consulting firm with nearly $470 billion in assets under advisement is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to join its team. The firm provides investment consulting, research, and portfolio-related services primarily to institutional investors, including corporations, public funds, endowments and foundations, healthcare organizations, and Taft-Hartley plans.

The Director of Finance & Accounting will lead and oversee the firm's financial and accounting functions, including financial operations, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial planning. Reporting to the President, this senior leadership role will provide financial guidance to support the firm's continued growth and oversee two members of the Accounting team.

Responsibilities:
Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the firm's long-term goals and objectives
Provide leadership across financial accounting, budgeting, financial systems, strategic planning, and financial analysis
Oversee the preparation and presentation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting standards
Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including consolidation and reporting across multiple entities
Prepare shareholder and Board reports and provide actionable financial insights to senior management and stakeholders
Lead financial due diligence related to potential mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships
Manage cash flow and liquidity to support ongoing operational needs
Oversee treasury functions, including cash forecasting, investment management, and banking relationships

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
CPA required
10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including significant management experience
Strong financial modeling, analysis, KPI development, and reporting skills
Experience with financial systems and software, including Sage Intacct and Microsoft 365; investment management software experience a plus
Strong leadership, problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to financial and non-financial stakeholders

Compensation:
Total compensation is approximately $275,000, including a performance-based bonus and comprehensive benefits. The base salary is flexible and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. The position also offers the potential for equity/ownership over time.
