Our unit consists of 39 beds, serving a diverse range of complex ICU patients, including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases.Patient Types\n \n Complex ICU patients\n Surgical and medical conditions\n Cardiac care (preferred)\n Neuro and trauma cases\n Common diagnoses: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac catheterization, post-surgical, multiple-system trauma\n Job Requirements\n \n Minimum of 2 years ICU experience (excluding travel experience preferred)\n If less experience, significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered with approval\n Must live 100 miles away from any facility\n No first-time travelers accepted; at least one prior travel assignment required\n Patient Ratios\n \n RN: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 (rare, based on patient acuity)\n Required Certifications\n \n BLS\n ACLS\n NIHSS\n TNCC (required)\n Education and Skills\n \n Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing\n Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required in South Dakota\n Epic experience preferred\n Ability to work a 48-hour/week contract\n Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry\n Strong critical thinking and assessment skills\n Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment\n Unit Support\n \n CNA support: 1-2 Nurse Aides per unit\n Mobility float aide available\n Resource Nurse available based on staffing needs\n Phlebotomy support for peripheral blood draws only\n ICU CRNs place all midlines\n RT support available 24/7\n Physician oversight by Intensivists during the day and APP coverage at night\n Orientation\n \n Hospital orientation: Total of 8 hours\n Unit orientation: 12-hour shifts plus independent shifts for travelers\n Scheduling\n \n Weekend rotation typically every other weekend, not guaranteed\n No requests for time off during holidays\n Time off approval: Up to 7 days, must extend to accommodate a full 13-week contract\n No time off during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August annually)\n Additional Notes\n Candidates may be expected to precept students.
