Position Overview

Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky, is an internationally recognized leader in equine medicine, combining cutting-edge technology with a collaborative team dedicated to advancing equine health and performance.

Department: Main Office Garage

Schedule: Friday – Sunday, 7am – 5pm, overtime as directed.

Essential Responsibilities and Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance and support to ambulatory/field veterinarians in the garage area.
• Assist with receiving deliveries and offloading trucks using the forklift.
• Restock the garage with medical equipment, drugs, and supplies.
• Assist with restocking fluids room.
• Clean and prepare instruments and OB tubes for autoclave.
• Autoclave instruments in a timely manner.
• Maintain a clean/sanitary and well-organized work/service and garage area – inside the Garage and outside in the driveway and parking areas.
• Act as a backup driver [as needed] for Lab runs to Churchill Downs
• Other duties as assigned

Essential Functions

• Holds confidential all records concerning patients' and veterinarians' medication profile.
• Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.

• Constructively communicate progress, problems, or other issues requiring attention to the appropriate member of management.
• Foster teamwork by working with area staff members to find solutions to problems or needs regarding clients, veterinarians, operational needs, and the working environment.
• Offer solutions and demonstrate a positive attitude when dealing with clients, doctors, management, staff members, and outside vendors or suppliers.
• Give guidance to other personnel in understanding the importance of adhering to procedures and proper protocol in the areas of compounding, client service and safety standards.
• Maintain a professional appearance and a courteous attitude.
• Always Maintain a clean, sanitary, and well-organized work/service area.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Good organizational skills, including time management.
• Ability to make decisions by following established procedures.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to lift 75 – 100 lbs
• Equine drugs and products knowledge helpful
• Forklift experience helpful
• Customer service experience
• Excellent communicator
• Valid Driver's License

• Education/Experience:
• High school diploma or graduate equivalent degree.
• Language Ability:
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from doctors, other staff and clients.
• Math Ability:
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply simple math formulas.
• Reasoning Ability:
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Certificates and Licenses:
• None required

• Minimal exposure to physical risk, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with
  chemicals.
• Exposure to chemicals used in compounding preparations (some chemicals are classified as toxic and special safety precautions must be taken when working with these chemicals).
• No exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
• Protective equipment will be worn as necessary

Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.

Pay Range

$16—$17 USD
